Over here [UK] we have a daily dose of 'Judge Judy' and, although I like the programme, I can't help but think either..
1. The whole thing is staged .. or ..
2. The people in the Dock have 'dillusions of grandeur' .. translated means, they are lying, we know they are lying and they know we know they are lying so what's the point in lying ?!
Can our American 'Cousins' shed some light on this one ?

Lol, I'm not sure myself about that show but they people in it sure seem nuts. :)
They she is a real judge, the cases are real, etc....obviously there is some grandstanding to make it a tv show. Real court is anything but entertaining....
You have to be a complete idiot, in my opinion, to have your case heard before a TV audience, but they do it...so who knows. Jerry Springer was staged, its like pro wrestling. We all know its fake, but we all tune in. (All = not me. :D )

I watched a Jerry Springer show one time... Im sad to report that this is America according to the media networks.(I am affraid they maybe right)
On the bright side what country would want to conquer us and have to deal with this type of people who believe this crap.

Judge Judy=Evil and Mean:p
It's a staged reality.
To get on that type of show both the plaintiff and defendant have to agree to drop their civil case and allow themselves to be bound by the shows (as opposed to an offical state or federal) judges decision.
It's actually a pretty good deal from what I read as the show pays the litigants for their participation and the judgement (either way) is taken from that so nobody really looses.

Agree that it's trash, but Judy herself is a real judge. We also have Judge Joe Brown and there used to be an old judge who was fairly famous, and was the first to have his own show. I forget his name.
Oh, and after 40 years we still have the original trash court show, "Divorce Court".:dead:

Ugh... my mother watches those judge shows all day long.. Judge Judy, Judge Hatchet, Judge Alex, Judge Mathis... I don't know how people watch them?
I love the fact that Europeans get to "experience America" by our swell representatives on the Jerry Springer show, all the judge shows as stated above, and don't even get me started on the view!:damn:

Storyline: "My boyfriend left me with two mouths to feed"
Dredd: Explain yourself, citizen
Man: Well, I never wanted it to go on longer than it did
Dredd: Explanation denied. Prepare to be judged. High Ex.
Dredd's Gun: *whirr* <High-Ex>
Man: No, please, I'll change, and I-

From what I understand, Judy ran her real court the same way back when she was a family court judge. Her husband (Who did a stint on the People's Court) has the same browbeating attitude. They also live right here in Connecticut (Grenwich I think) and the town decided to build a soccer field right next to their property. Well.. the design was horrible and midway through the construction, there was a mudslide of sorts off the construction area and it wiped out a good portion of their yard and every time it rained, mud would wash out of the soccer field and into their pool. They totally went after the town and I think the town gave in (And judging from her and her husband's personalities, I imagine the town fixed things QUICK !).
She has many kids too... all of them in the legal field from what I know. They must be the best behaved kids EVER.
Don't ask how I know all this stuff. I'm just a storehouse of random knowlege that bubbles out occasionally. :88)

whoa! you defenitly are a chest `o random knowledge! Who else knows this much about JJ than you or her family?:)
And yes, "divorce court" is the worst one of the lot.
Judge Joe Brown is probably the best, if you could call it that...

I've been saying this for years and years. Many people abroad are blind to majority/real America. They see our TV and say, "Are they all like that?" The foreign view of the United States is drowning in misinformation, misunderstanding and plain old bias. For starters = WE AREN'T ALL FAT/OVERWEIGHT!!

there used to be an old judge who was fairly famous, and was the first to have his own show. I forget his name.
:dead:
Judge Wopner ! (spelling ?)
of the peoples court
the "cases" on these programs are usually ludicrous .
some are so trivial /outlandish they wouldnt even get heard in a small claims court at 3 am.
programs like this and springer are "entertainment"
Those on them are generally representative of "the worst" in people.
They are popular because , its an extension on circus show "freaks"
"bearded lady steals away Moms transsexual lover, but is pregnant by 2nd cousin !"
plaintiff - "he trashed all my clothes i want some money !"
defendant - "but she cheated on me ! so it was self defense !"
viewer - "sheesh look at these loons ! i guess my life aint so bad, after all ."

Yes, there seems to be a pattern like this that runs thru the Judge Judy show.
Who is this Judge Judy? some sort of fembot?
I don't know about that Judge Judy, but I have seen in the german cable TV siilar programs. Here in Spain we had loooong ago a program were minor civil cases were trialed not as real trials but throught a "referee contract" by an old, retired magistrate of the supreme court. Felt like killing spiders with a gun, ad it was also terribly boring. Why is it that those of us who work in real life in the courts don't find it entertaining nor in real life or in TV? It doesn't but amaze me that people are interesting in watching in the TV such stupid trials, but come to think of it there's possibly some worser rubbish with high audience rates....

One of those TV judges was also a referee, boxing I think. I can't remember his name though, a little bald headed guy with a little big man attitude. Anyone know?
I have to admit he was fun to watch now and then, but by and large those shows just irritate me. It's why I don't have network TV. If I want to watch something i'll just get the dvd.

Judge Mills Lane! That guy rocked.
He was also a voice actor for the MTV series Celeberty Death Match!
"Let's get it on!"
I have to say, I was a little annoyed to go to Russia this summer and discover that even they are running their own Judge Judy and Divorce Court clones. Thought it'd get old now, but, alas - reality TV is really the plague of the last few years everywhere, and probably next few.
Luckily for me, I actually stopped watching TV altogether here about 4 years ago :88)
