Hi guys,

Very new noobie to GWX .. and SH3... been looking for an answer as to how to change the screen resolution up to 1280x1024. Can we do this with GWX??.. any help would be most appreciated... I see no option to change it in the video settings in the game..

Thanks much

Mike

Quote from the SH3 community manual (http://www.communitymanuals.com/shiii/index.php?title=Main_Page).

Display Resolution

As installed, SH3 doesn't offer you a choice for a display resolution setting. The game fixes it at 1024 x 768.
To override this limitation, SH3 modmaker Kegetys has developed a DLL file that permits greater display resolutions when playing SH3. Kegetys' SH3 Resolution Override DLL can be downloaded from one of the following links:
Mirror 1 (http://koti.mbnet.fi/kegetys/dl.php?f=dx9res10&e=zip)
Mirror 2 (http://www.paulwasserman.net/SHIII/dx9res10.zip)
Mirror 3 (http://www.filefront.com/?filepath=/theofpfaq/sh3/SH3_Mod_DirectX9Res10.zip)Make sure you read the enclosed instructions to customize the DLL's configuration file, d3d9.cfg.

For Windows XP SP2 users:
We're not finished yet. In order to get Kegetys' DLL to work, you'll also need to install Microsoft's Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows/appcompatibility/default.mspx) and perform the following procedure to customize it for SH3:
On Windows' Start menu, select "All Programs/Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 4.0/Tools" and run the Compatibility Administrator.
When the program opens, make sure "New Database" is highlighted under "Custom Databases", and click the "Fix" button.
In the "Name of program to be fixed" box, type "SH3". Now, click the browse button, and select the sh3.exe in your SH3 install directory. Then click on the "Next" button.
Under "Operating System Modes" select "None" and click the "Next" button.
In the "Compatibility Fixes" box, check DelayDLLInit, and click the "Parameters" button.
In the "Command Line" box, type "d3d9.dll" and click "OK". (You can click the "Test Run" button to make sure it is working). Click the "Next" button.
Click on the "Finish" button. Then click the "Save" button, name it "SH3", and click OK.
On the "File" menu, select "Install".
Close the Compatibilty Administrator.
Enjoy SH3 in high display resolution. Multiple Screenshot Support

The DLL provides its own mutli-screenshot support. With the DLL installed, by default, any time you press your keyboards's PRINTSCREEN key in-game, a screen image will be saved as a TGA file in SH3's install folder.
You can alter the screenshot save path by editting the DLL's accompanying CFG file, d3d9.cfg. File d3d9.cfg contains the following relevant lines:

enableScreenshots=1
screenshotPath=.

The above will result in placing a TGA picture file in the defined directory path whenever the PRINTSCREEN key is hit in-game.
For your information, TGA files can be converted to JPGs and other file types using freeware programs such as IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com/)

You can do this much simpler - download SH3_SP2_res_fix, read readme.txt, install files and enjoy higher resolution.

I hope you all realize that by increasing your screen resolution you are going to be making the games frame rates very very low in the harbors, especially when they get real busy. I personally wouldn't mess it with, but to each his own.

Bloody Hell! And it is probably on me, but I crashed my SHIII GWX installation trying to use the zip file for high res. Many backup installations so it will be OK, just a pain in the patootie.... Argh:down: I want High Res!

Please note, I have an AS in CompSci, and this game still sometimes baffles my feeble little brain.

Thanx, David

You have right - 1280x1024 is rather hard work for graphic card, I had 5-8 fps in harbour using Radeon 9800Pro 128 MB and Athlon 2400+. Now I have Radeon X1950Pro 256 MB with Athlon 3500+ and I have 20-25 fps.

Is there still a problem with F9-F12 keys when using higher resolution?

The first higher resolution caused GWX to crash. I removed it and the mod works perfectly.

I've enabled High res for GWX but it has introduced some problems.
In MP game loads very fast, but introduces problems with interface,,I cannot launch torps by pressing on fire button.
I van click on Wo icon and launch by clicking on the fire icon to the right of solution tab icon.
Clients report not being able to raise scoops..
Has any1 been successful with GWX and High res Playing MP?
Thanks.

Yeah it works fine for me @ 1280x1024 (my LCD's native res). I never tried changing res on stock sh3
[edit: oops I just realised you said MP. I haven't played MP, this is only with the normal game]

I didn't notice much of a framerate hit either - I have a fairly average card, pci-e Geeforce 7600 gt

Only prob I've noticed is a problem minimising to desktop. it causes the taskbar to flicker on the bottom of the screen, and not much else. If I then press windows-L to get to the welcome screen, then go back to my login its fine and from then on I can ctrl-esc back to the desktop fine.

But sometimes when I go back to SH3 I have two mouse pointers, and they don't line up... you have to get used to the default windows pointer pointing to somewhere above the SH3 pointer, and ignore it. I think you get two pointers after someone else has switched to their login from the welcome screen while SH3 is running.

Yeah I've has the high res working NP in ver 1.1a ,but no joy in GWX..yeah..alt tab doesnt work with res mod.

I have tried following the wiki instructions..And I have 3 times before got this to work..so I know I'm doing something wrong,
One ?
I follow carefully the instructions. click install.. and exit.
I look in root sh3 for the new high res dll. and the cfg file to edit to my desired res..1366 x 768..but i dont see the new d3d9res.dll nor the d3d9 cfg folder..

so what am i leaving out..Thanks:damn:

You can fix this problem with Set Keys, download from my FileFront link below. Also fix that mistake of hitting P for Periscope View and only realizing you just ordered Periscope Depth. Very Usefull tool, I've changed 50% of my hotkeys to my specifications.

Using the resolution fix with a 20" LG widescreen but have also had the no ctrl-tab problem. And also in the control room none of the gauges were correct, everything points straight up? Game was awesome in high res, I had it set to 1680 x 1050. I since have taken it back and decided I can live with the standard res.

I will try to change my res tonight to 1280x1024, since my LCD does not perform so briliant in 1024...:(. I hope I won't crash my installation.

Having no problem here with the compatibility tookit res change fix with kegetys d3d9 dll file... Im using 1680*1050 res on a Dell 20" widescreen. Flawless so far..

If you all have alt - tab troubles and really need the access to desktop you might want to try this little tool : - http://grismar.net/shiftwindow/

what this does is allow you to set your sh3 (or any game) ini or from ingame options to "window" mode, but at same time target the application running "SH3" and then hit the trigger button in the shiftwindow application, and your window mode style becomes full screen effect. It removes the window border edging etc then applies the whole thing to full screen.. This there in allowing one to select and use any application running on taskbar, with alt-tab, or use windows key for start menu without effecting game..

Basically it is window mode but you get same view as in full screen.. great tool and I use it in many games if messing about with loads of things at same time... specially when games wont behave with alt-tab..

Cheers,

James.

Cool, any performance or visual quality hit in windowed mode? Windowed mode always reverted to software acceleration with other experiences I've had, but this is probably back in the openGL days.

The res fix doesn't work in windowed mode, the window loads up in 1024x1024. EDIT: It works, even though it's initially in 1024

When I use shiftwindow in fullscreen mode there is still a gap left at the bottom that I can't get rid of. Plus AA doesn't seem to work. I think I might give this a miss. Otherwise it would have been awesome.

I tried everything. I did the whole Microsoft Compatibility Toolkit bull****. I tried running it with and without the batch file. I tried running it in compatibility mode. I tried running it as administrator. With the fix installed the game crashes immediately no matter what. Without the fix installed the game is so messed up on my monitor that everyone looks like little 8 bit pixels and it's impossible to play. I cant' even see what I'm doing.
