I have put on a new version of Silent Hunter 3 and the 1.4b patch
1st Question - Is it best to run the standard game at least once, or to put on the new GWX without running the standard game first at least one time.
I have made a folder called GWX on my desktop i have the 6 files downloaded in that. What now please is my next move. Do i just move the GWX folder i created into the SH3 main directory and then click on the ex file in that GWX folder.
Thank you so very much for any help you can give this old guy as i am a bit lost with all the separate files.

Click on the "execute" file within the GWX folder...it will self install to the directory where you have game.
Don't forget to update the SH3 Commander .cfg file if you use it.

Ok Danny
No need to run SH3 first or to move to the SH3 main directory
Make sure all your GWX files are in one folder
First off is you need to check no corrupted files with the MD5 checker
http://files.filefront.com/jsmd5cexe/;6369669;;/fileinfo.html
http://hosted.filefront.com/JScones/ (http://hosted.filefront.com/JScones/)
Then if all ok just run the exe
When all is installed add these two files through the JSGME mod installer

Take it one step at a time and ask if you need any help

What do those last two files do?

The first one is the German commands fix but also contains a minor graphics update - It was posted at release time in the release thread
The second is a fix for a ship problem in Penang thats in your way on patrol start
Install both through JSGME

Thank You To You All
I best tell you i really am not good with computers
I download the md5 compare file but i could not even work that out after spending an hour with it. Anyway i went ahead and tried to install GWX. All seemed to be going ok but a quarter way through the install i got this message ( file is corrupted in sound\ gramophone\021\ogg )
If this is not a silly question to ask does anyone know based on the above information which of the 6 files i downloaded might contain the file that's corrupted. It will save me downloading each again, one at a time to see if i can get the correct not corrupted download.
Boxing and the fight game i understand but computers bar simple files and folders i am a bit of a dummy with Guys. That's why to be honest i sent away and got the old Greywolves from subsim on dvd. Much better for an oldie like me.

Please read this (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=102102) thread for more information on how to use MD5 Compare.

Once again thank you all for your help. Yes, i had a corrupted file but after a fresh download and a lot of praying all is ok and i am finally set to go to sea.
One more question if i may please Gentlemen, i need to put on these two files that are below. Once again am totally in the dark about using the JSGME mod installer. Can you give me any clues as to how i do this or point me to where i can read about how to use it.

Inside your GWX installation you will find an exe. labelled JSGME. Right click on it and choose 'send to desktop' this will create a shortcut.
Within the same folder you will see a 'MODS' folder. This contains optional mods which can be loaded by JSGME.
You need to extract the two files that you have and copy them into the MODS folder.
Then, if you open JSGME via the shortcut on your desktop you will see a list of optional mods on the left. You can highlight these and click on the > button to move them to the right side and enable them.
You have not mentioned whether you are using SH3 Commander, if you are not then after you have enabled the optional mods you can fire up SH3 and enjoy.
If you are using SH3Cmdr then make sure it is 'Rolled Back' before enabling any mods.
I hope this is clear, if not just ask again.

Danny,
Concerning those two .7z files:
7z is just a type of compressed file which contains the files you need inside it. If you have trouble opening the file, then you can go download and install 7-zip here: http://www.7-zip.org/. Once you've installed and opened the program, make sure you check the additional types of file extensions that the program will be able to open, though .7z will be good to go already. Then close program. Go double click the 2 files and the program will automatically open them.
Extracting is essentially copying. If you know how to copy and paste and of course if you know how to browse to different locations on your computer, then you'll have no problem doing so. Just make sure you put the folder that's in the zip file in the mod folder as Danlisa said.
