in vanilla SH3....

in description it says they become available in 43 and Im 42 and they already automatically appeared in my fishes compartments....Am I some beta-tester or what?

Also what is the best use of them as they claim to have acoustic homing and so far they only failed me... should i use them rather as magnetic or impact ?
danke

Its correct. They have issued you with those torps, as a prototype. No worries! I usually put them in magnetic, and set their depth to 1 meter under the keel of the enemy ship. That way it doesnt bounce off the propellers.

Edit: Best use? Against stubborn DD's.

I use them on destoyers, they have saved my but a no. of times. What I do is set the draft for what ever is chasing me and fire magnetic. They cannot get away unless they lose contact with you and speed up past the speed of the torp. I let loose at about 1000 mtr. and have never missed yet. Except for the on time I did not crash dive and the damm thing came back and bit me in the ass, lost all hands with that one.

thanks!
at what maximum AoA is is reasonable to fire them?

at what maximum AoA is is reasonable to fire them?0 or 180, i think, considering getting the best sound source..
Edit: When DD heading straight for you at 0 deg. bow angle, or running straight away from you.

yeah but if they are homing that should mean you dont need to put the data like speed of target and its distance into TDC???

You can use the TDC, but its not necesarry. The torpedo has to approach the target within a fair distance to pick up the propeller/engine noise. If the ship is too far away, the torpedo wont find it.:yep:

IIRC they dont arm for 400m
Then they go for the loudest sound

Dont let it be you :rotfl:

You are lucky to be the beta- testers. This shows that you service is excellent and appriciated by Bdu

However, this may also mark your approach of the end of your career:down: if you use SH3 Commander and turn on "realistic career length". Bdu won't risk your life by asking you to patrol again:yep: , but be a teacher and teach in Naval school, or even promote you to Admiral:up:

Their best use is against DDs which had discovered you and running straight towards you. With ordinary T1/T2/T3, they either bounce off the ship / evaded by the DDs

It rocks!!! I've tried it many times in 1943~1944 (still cannot go to 1945)

so whats the best range to fire them??? max/min?

and whats their turning capability and max speed??

Dont let it be you

well never happened as I was never really able to hit anything with them--->not even myself especially

being bdu i wouldnt risk sending myself to threaten cadets future with me by teaching them lol

T-IV Falke = 20 kts, T-V and T-XI Zuankönig = 24 kts

Turning capability is about 100m turning radius. But that's just a rough guess. I've not measured it.

If the destroyer is approaching and you fire them at 400m, they will arm and eventually hit, but that may be too late for you. If the destroyer is receeding, then it may be that it's moving faster than 20 (or 24) kts.

For an approaching DD, I would fire between 1000 and 1200m. For a receeding one, then 400m is okay, but I'll try and estimate the speed first.

Sometimes I'll deliberately make some noise, having fired one, just to get the DD to slow down to listen for me again, just so the T-IV will catch up with it. Sometimes, if I can get it to go from 31 kts down to 11 kts, it will get me a kill. Depends on the DD, of course. Some of them are more prone to being killed by acoustic torpedoes than others.
