He was only one of U-9's commaders. There were 2 U-9's.
Edit: Research shows they're 3 U-9's

From my readings, there was a U-9 in WW1 and a U-9 in WWII. I would suppose we speak about the WWII version.
Was commissioned Aug 21 1935 and sank Aug 20 44 by russian airplanes. It was one of the type II subs operating in the Black Sea from Oct. 42 to its sinking. Had 11 skippers in her career.
Regarding the Liverpool question, depends what mod you're running, if any, and what year we are talking about. It's a fairly dangerous place and I would rather ambush convoys coming in or going out in the AM 52 region...
PS : after seeing post from bbw and considering your list of names, it is obvious I am wrong and we talk about the WW 1 version..
My main discovery from patroling in those areas is to keep a close eye on the depth of water under the keel. In the deeper areas where you have a decent chance of escaping after you attack, the risks are about the same an anywhere else (this is up to december '42.) If I find the depth too shallow to evede depth charges, I tend to be leary about attacking. Haven't always come out of those.
