Hello to everyone from a newbie here, even if I'm used to haunt this forum quite often as a guest. I'm now registered and would take the chance to ask you a question :

I've already added in the proper folders of the game several kind of uniforms taken from various mods, but for the sailors and petty officers in particular, the uniform my crew wears is always the same. Is there a way to randomise the kind of uniform they all wear at one point, and/or in time ?

Thanks for your help,

Chris

Welcome to SubSim:up:

I don't think you can randomise the crew uniforms. GWX though has new uniforms that are really good, so give it a shot and you might like it;)

Too bad !

Then I wonder why several are then available in the "body" folder, with different file names !?

For the record, here's what I mean, during a cannon attack against a poor unarmed ship ; same "uniformity" in the tower for the watch, and inside the sub too...

I'm by no stretch a modder, but just throwing ideas out. Maybe those files are the rain slicker/cold weather/warm weather uniforms?

It should work to use the Date folders in SH3 Commander. It would not randomize the uniforms but you could have different uniforms from different dates.
Or, I could be way of here:hmm: :hmm:

Commander has two separate randomizing functions; only one of them is by date. I think it is possible to do it that way.

That would be an interesting track to follow. BTW, I'm using IUB and SH3 Commander (plus a couple of other mods and skins I like).

If you don't use commander you could down load my skins at http://u-boot.realsimulation.com/ and try this
1) You will need to make a knote of the names of you four main 4 officers so you will need to start your game and wright the names on paper

2) copy one of the crew config files to your desktop it dosn't matter which one, you will find them here silenthunterIII/data/Cfg folder

3) open this config file with notepad, scroll down and edit the line on each crew member where it says BodyTgaIdx=0 and change the 0 to a number between 0 and 7

changeing this number uses one of the eight skins I've supplied for the crew in this pack (dont edit the main officers theres no need, you should have there names on paper so you can see which not to edit).
4) If you whish to take off a crew members hat scroll down to the line that says HasHelmet=yes and change the yes to no, If you want him to have a hat leave the line so it reads HasHelmet=Yes.
5) once you have finished editing this crewconfig file make 9 copies and name them as list below (NAMES MUST BE CORRECT OR YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMS)

crew_config_VII_1
crew_config_VII_2
crew_config_VII_3
crew_config_IX_1
crew_config_IX_2
crew_config_IX_3
crew_config_XXI_1
crew_config_XXI_2
crew_config_XXI_3

6) Now put all 9 of your new crewconfig files here silenthunterIII/data/Cfg folder (BUT REMEMBER TO BACKUP YOUR ORIGINAL CREWCONFIG FILES JUST IN CASE OF PROBLEMS)

ADDITIONAL HELP

Heres part of one of my crewconfig files showing you which lines to change (just to make steps 3 and 4 clear)

BodyTgaIdx=0-----------------change the 0 to a number between 0 and 4 for main officers or 0-7 for crew
HasHelmet=Yes----------------leave this as HasHelmet=Yes if you want this crew member to have a hat or change it to HasHelmet=no if you dont want a hat
HelmetIdx=0

This way you should get lots of different skins in use for your crew.

When a Master gives such an answer, all one has left to do is to say :
"Thanks !"

Now, let's read and understand all this ; then let's work on it !

Chris

PS : stop me if I make a mistake, but the officer's uniforms are in the Body/Body01/OFF_TGA folder and the petty officer's + sailors in the Body/Body01/POS_TGA folder, right ?

I did the work : I set the number to 6, as I have 6 different uniform files in each folder (in OFF_TGA and POS_TGA). Unfortunately, things remained the very same, and regarding the hats too (I wanted more crews with caps) ; would launching the game via SH3 Commander have an influence on these modified Cfg files ???

[Later]

Yes, I found why it didn't work : I now noticed that SH3 Cmdr has its own Cfg files. I guess that the same work can be made there ? I mean to modify one Cfg file in the Cfg folder of SH3 Cmdr and replace the other 8 files with this one (with the appropriate names) ?

Before making any changes to SH3 files, roll back Commander first. Then make changes.

Unfortunately, the harm is done : the game crashs even with the original files replaced...

I spent hours in trying to fix the problem, but in vain ; even trying to start a new career doesn't prevent the game to crash. Seems I will have to reinstall all the stuff and say goodbye to my nice career. :stare:

BTW, I still didn't understand in what rolling back files in Cmdr may help (dumb I am for sure :88) ) ; and it seems thzt Cmdr rolls back the files automatically when launching SH3 ?

Chris

Now I got it : the warning of Cmdr in its new version is much more clear ; especially for those for whom english isn't their mother tongue (me for example). Thanks to the designers.
