Anybody pick up FSX?

I haven't had too much time to play it yet, but it seems pretty amazing graphics wise over FS9.

Has anyone tried the Cargo Pilot add on for either FSX or FS9? I was thinking about picking it up.

I did, and I like it very much, but it will also require much more from your rig.

Im still using FS9, as I dont have a nuclear reactor handy to run those kind of graphic demands...

I've recently picked up FSX. A buddy of mine bought the Deluxe version when it first came out but he ended up not really getting into, so he sold it to me on the cheap.

I've only played it a little bit and I like it so far from what I have experienced. I took a flight around my home town, flew from Daytona, Florida to Miami, Florida. It was a great flight.

I could have set the weather to real time but it woulda been ****ty, as it's been pouring here the last couple days off and on. So I set it to what I thought would be some great flying conditions, mostly blue bird but with some great clouds in the sky. If you can push the graphics on this puppy it really is something to look at. I've got FS9 and there is a diffenent improvement in a lot of areas graphically. Especially if you fly light aircraft and not jets. From a jet at 35,000 feet things aren't as noticable, but in a Cessena at 10,000 it looks a lot better compared to FS9 in the same situation. I traveled parallel to the coast on the way down, basically right along the beach the whole way. Seeing boats on the water was pretty cool.

So basically from what I have experienced, I can recommend this:
-If you are confident you can run FSX well with higher settings, get it. You won't regret it. It improves in every catagory over it's predecessor.
-If you are not confident you can run it well. Stick with FS9 until you upgrade. It is still a great piece of software and has an established community.

Yep, thanks for that - I suspected it all along. I'll keep my well-tweaked FS9 for now - among other things, I'm not willing to give up my maxed-out autogen that I can safely run with it :88)

FSX - I'll give myself till 2008 to catch up with it.

Problem is that there are so many great add ons for FS9, which can not be used with FSX. Not sure if there is a patch for the PMDG 737 simulation yet, but this is an excellent simulation of the 737 flightdeck, without getting too complicated for the home pilot. With even more systems you will need two pilots, just as the real thing ;)

FS9 for me.I can barely run FS9 on medium with this rig, much less run FSX on ANY setting. (BTW,didn't know there were so many flightsimmers in a naval sim forum. :D)

We all play diffrent games, sometimes we need a change from being depth charged to being G locked.

FSX is great but you need an 8800 to play it with good gfx.

FSX was welcomed by me, cause it caused the prices for FS9 and it's addons to drop, sometimes significantly, Many people makiong the jump to FSX want to get rid of their FS9 addons. I also run a better system now than I did back then when FS9 was released. So I abandoned my FS2002 installation, and picked up FS9, plus the complete set of addon terrain textures, environmental mods, meshes, planes, planners. Bought all that second hand, for not more than one third of the once original price. Only fully invested in a new TrackIR 4 Pro.

I saved a lot of money, and now run a very much enhanced FS9 for smile price and on a system that easily handley it at full details, making it look better than the FSX default version.

Thank you FSX! See you again in three or four years (if ever)! :D
