View Full Version : I'm in trouble

I play SH3 too much. Came home after 14 hours at work, and started to play the game. I more or less ignored my girlfriend and her dinner, now she took off to a friend and threatened to leave me

Guess I'm a bad boy, and should take more care of her than SH3. I better do something about this, you know women...they mean what they say.

Any suggestions? Think i'll try to make a deal with her :yep:

Mate you ARE in trouble, especially now that GWX is comming:yep: :yep: :yep:

On a serious note though. I would suggest to take her out on a nice dinner, or even on a week end somewhere the two of you. Something where she can have your whole attention for a long period of time. And make sure you don't come anywhere near your PC for the next week or so.

Sorry to hear that, mate... i agree with mel; some quality time could add up to playing SHIII.. Try to make a schedule; when shall i play, and when shall i be with my woman. If you give her the time she wants with you, im sure she will let you have your SHIII-time also. Good luck! :yep:

After a long day like that, you should by all rights be more interested in her, if she's worth it. Don't make deals or promises you can't deliver. Deals suck anyways, and you'll have 'em hung around your neck like noose.

Suprised you didn't fall asleep at the helm! Or maybe I'm just getting old...... I would have, and have done so in the past.

Best bet, apologise and make ammends for your lack of courtesy. After all, she had dinner ready for you. It may not sound like much, but it is. Don't take it, or her for granted. ;)

Yes the game is addictive, and we all need our fix, but be intellegent about when you decide to sit down and get it.

Or just be willing to enjoy blissful bachelorhood.

Give and take brother. SH3/GWX or girlfriend? I'm sure you will miss her...LOL. On a serious note. Got to have balance bro. If you give her what she wants you have a nice barganing chip. Most of all, lay that cable like you going across the Atlantic with it. Pulling it off in the shower is no way to go through life. Women require security financially, you have that covered....14 hour work day. They also require attention like a flower requires water and sun. Without those the flower withers away. So shower her with water and sun. Once this is complete you can pretty much do what you want. You must keep that up though. In all reality, a few nights away from the computer might do you some good. WHo knows, you might even enjoy hanging out with her. At least that how it started, yes?

If you can, tim down the work hours for the next week or two and spend some time with her. Go to the movies, take her shopping, go out for dinner. Keep SHIII down to a minimum (I know it's hard but try!!) Put off installing GWX to reduce temptation.:damn:

A salior needs a friendly port to come home to, not an enemy occupied one!!:dead:

Show some love and you will find her more acceptable to SHIII in the future:up:

I think the moment you decided to ask us to help you, you were doomed. If you still have a bit of human left in you, take your stupid sh3 cd and crack it. Yeah go ahead, you can do it. One day you might be able to do the same with your computer. That one<s hard though, i havent managed yet. Anyways, good luck.

Actually, thanks for bringing that up. With the advent of GWX coming out, I will have to lay the cable regularly for the next day or so. Then I can be left alone to play GWX:up: Man, best reminder note all week. Furthermore, I will be buying off the wife with money to go Christmas shopping. Goodie, she will be out all weekend:up: So lets see, she will be satisfied sexually, gratified moniterly, and exhausted after all of this....all right crew, good times this weekend:up:

Well that sounds like a good solution, I'll run her tired and satisfied in different ways...I got four days off from thursday

Thanks guys, a lot of helpful suggestions here, I'm sure my problem will be solved. Btw I don't work 14 hrs a day, I'm a pilot, and my working hours depends on things like the weather, which is tuff around here these days. A lot of coffee keeps us going, but now I gotta hit the bedroom.

Hey Subwolf.......

I fly for a living as well. In fact...I am scheduled to go to Oslo tomorrow but I am not sure if I am going to take the trip. (My mom got really sick a few days ago and they will drop the trip for me if I want to be with her).

Anyway....what do you fly? I am on the 767. Do you live near Oslo?

P.S. She isnt a flight attendant is she????

My wife used to be exactly the same especially as im a submariner in real life, she said it was like i was at sea when i was on my pc in the living room, she complained of being bored and lonely, so i gave her 2 kids, now her arse doesnt touch the sofa she is that busy looking after me and my 2 little crew members, best thing i ever did as now she is too busy to even notice me on SH3. Every now and again I pull into port, turn the pc off, open up a few bottles of vino and take her upstairs and show her a good time to keep her sweet, life is simple when you find the right route shipmate.
Good luck with the mrs, dont forget thier is a whole shoal of fish out there  If she wants to leave then let her, the only noise you want to hear in your ears is the sound of breaking bulkheads and your crew cheering not a woman draining down on you while your trying out the new GWX:arrgh!:

Take a read through the "what do you tell your lady" thread for some solutions, too, mate!

Im slowly but surely convincing mine that its a ridiculously good game from a historical perspective as well as graphically, and shes gonna be starting her first mission once my new pc turns up next week.

On the plus side for me, shopping with her is brilliant - she hates shopping, so theres no lingering in the clothes shops or anything:rock: (well, excluding bras n things:arrgh!: )

Keep her happy, and the best way to do that is compromise. Bottom line is, if she goes, you'll miss her, and well, they do have their uses..:yep:

I think Subwolf, you're to addicted to SH3,

maybe visit Dr.Phil show :rotfl:

''Help my husband is paying to much time on a Subsim then me?''

Dr.Phil: I play SH3 too, so what the ******* ur whining about!

now a bit more serious, really if ur GF is threating you to leave you, then you're really going a bit to far with spending hours on the game.
also why do you need advice from us , when its al very obvious ''Drop the amount of time behind the computer and spend more time with her''
you have to make the choice ''SH3? or your relationship?''
I say if she leaves you because you cant keep ur eyes of the monitor, then ask urself

''my girlfriend left me, is SH3 worth it?''

Only a fool would say ''Yes''

My advice is simple - lay off of the game for a while. The game is something that you can always come back to. Your girlfriend isn't.

I used to play RPGs 4-6 hours a day after work, then all day long on the weekends. I stopped playing the day before my daughter was born and haven't played since. I didn't play any games for two years. SH3 was the first. I'll play SH3 intermittently in the evenings when everyone else is asleep, but never with the intensity that I played before. I haven't played at all in the last two weeks.

There was one sentinel event that changed my gaming life. It was when an online friend of mine told me that he couldn't play the RPG anymore because he was being charged with criminal child neglect. He told me that while he was playing, his son and a few of his friends were playing in the basement. They found an old shotgun and after an extensive search, found some shells... The kids were horsing around with the weapon and his son was shot in the back of the neck. He was seriously wounded when my friend talked to me. I heard later that he died. I never saw my friend online again.

After taking some time away from gaming, I came to realize that time spent gaming, although it was very entertaining, was ultimately a tremendous waste of time. In the time I spent getting my character to be a master leatherworker, I could have learned the trade in real life. I learned the game, but nothing of value in the real world.

It's ultimately all about priorities. Games like SH3 can be very addictive and hours can fly by while playing. The thing I like to keep in mind is that while my fanny is parked in front of this monitor, the real world is still turning. When the CPU is turned off and you're finally lying in bed, the big question is what you accomplished that day - not in the game world, but in the real world.

I'd write more, but my daughter just asked me to read a book to her.

 I hope you were not the guy who tried landing in Bergen a couple of days ago. I heard the lightning carcked one of the windows. That was a Wideroe flight on route Aberdeen, they returned and landed safely :yep:

Is she hot???:hmm: I'm not sure if I liked that one...

But I'll answer your other questions. Got CPL-A approved on the 737NG, now working on the classics. Our airline operates a fleet of 52 737s both versions. I'm based in Stavanger but I'm inbound ENGM (Oslo apt) usually several times a day.

I hope this turns out ok for you, mate... Remember; You dont have to jump into that 737 if you dont feel up to it.. Its a tricky plane when the weather is bad, but so are the womans to..:yep: Hehe...thanks Seth, It looks like this turns out the right way for us :D

You're right, if I dont feel ready to handle her I will stay away...talking about the aircraft this time ;) But I don't mix private and work stuff, no problem.

Btw, I do visit Evenes from time to time. If you are planning a trip to Oslo I'll do my best to find a cockpit seat for you if you like :yep:

OHHHH YEAH!!! That would be Awesome!!! Im not planning a trip in the nearest future, but i'll take a rain check on that! PS: Coffee's on me!

Subwolf Hello mate ;) (sorry about your girfrend - i hope everithing will be allright in the end) i dont read all the posts that others wrote allready, but for my opinion you should take our pc and simply put it away for at least a weak. You don`t actually have to buy her a present just talk to her, and i`m shure you know the words :yep: , Good luck to you.

Best wishes - Dmitri (thats my real name)

I play SH3 too much. Came home after 14 hours at work, and started to play the game. I more or less ignored my girlfriend and her dinner, now she took off to a friend and threatened to leave me

Guess I'm a bad boy, and should take more care of her than SH3. I better do something about this, you know women...they mean what they say.

Any suggestions? Think i'll try to make a deal with her :yep:

First of all, I want to point out, that I do not know a WIT about women, only what I've learned from years of observation (and uuh....ignoration from their side), but I really think that she might be upset if you think this game deserves more time than her. My suggestion is: Don't play, or don't TALK about the game when she's around. If she's of to a place or something...then of you go!

Good to hear you got this under control!

Gotta be careful with these things. While I think there's a few female SHIII addicst around as well, I think trying to completely rationalize it to the non-interested is a lost cause. I remember being asked by a good (female) friend of mine - "how long have you been playing this now?" - "1.5 years" - "and how much longer do you plan to play it" - "umm... well, probably until next spring when SHIV is out" - ":shifty:"

So whatever you do, just don't try to make excuses and have that together-time set aside :)

How do you speak to a girl? I've never done it before

heh, just noticed this one: the talking is easy, to make it interesting (and intelligent) is another matter.....

oh and.....Tachyon...forget about this gal insulting you. Just because ONE does it, doesn't mean you should bury yerself in the ground!

:stare: and afther the 4 days , Mr. Wolf.
dont think you can just jump right back into the kaleun's seat.
be reasonable, when you get home ''First'' drink some coffee or tea with her.
ask if there is any plan for tonight, or make one
if you dont maybe you should ask ''do you mind I sit behind the computer for a bit?''
now...play SH3 for a short time aprox 1 hour(trust me dont make any longer) or somthing like that...and then go back and join your girlfriend on the couch watch tv or listing music :yep: or the hell with it grab a bottle of wine.
and maybe then the next day...dont sit behind the computer at all. do something else with her.

just a advice;)

How can you ask someone to play SH3 for an hour or so...:D barely time to get out of harbour and breathe the ocean's fresh air...;)
Someone on the line wrote he found incredible some people would spend 4 or more hours on their PC. I know worse, some people can spend 4 or more hours in front of TV !!!

PS : one good thing I find about SH3 is that you don't need to stay on your PC all the time. Most of the time, I choose the TC to run 3 hours of game time while I do something else. If I hear "ship spotted" or "aircraft spotted" - set on TC 0 for me - or whatever needs my presence, I am usually not far away...

Great stuff fellas! Extremely professional job and one for you guys to be very proud of.

One very small issue I've found: in Table 2 on Page 23 there is supposed to be a comparison of the Relative fatigue accumulation factors within U-boat compartments between surfaced and submerged states.

Looks like this is blank except for N/A in the Submerged column for Conning Tower.

How to keep your women happy.

It's not difficult to make a woman happy. A man only needs to be:
a friend
a companion
a lover
a brother
a father
a master
a chef
an electrician
a carpenter
a plumber
a mechanic
a decorator
a stylist
a sexologist
a gynecologist
a pest exterminator
a psychiatrist
a healer
a good listener
an organizer
a good father
very clean
sympathetic
athletic
warm
attentive
gallant
intelligent
funny
creative
tender
strong
understanding
tolerant
prudent
ambitious
capable
courageous
determined
true
dependable
passionate
compassionate

Without forgetting to:

give her compliments regularly
love shopping
be honest
be very rich
not stress her out
not looking at other girls

And at the same time, you must also:

give her lots of attention, but expect little yourself
give her lots of time, especially time for herself
give here lots of space, never worrying about where she goes

It is very important:

never forget birthdays, anniversaries, arrangements she makes

How to make a man happy:

Show up naked
bring food
