I'm not sure If this was in the original SHIII or added later in GW1.1a but when you transfer over to Bergen(like in '44) if you make a beeline for the south-east corner of quadrant AF87 when you leave port, you'll always run into a task force with a Fleet Carrier and a few of the Dido-class light cruisers. It'll be going 20kts and will be on a heading of like 75deg. You don't really need to rush to get into a firing position, I had a type XXI and ran on the surface coming out of port at about 13 kts. IT'S ALWAYS THERE... always. Hope someone takes this out of GWX because it's a huge realism pisser, but if you don't mind that, it's an easy 23,000 tons!:arrgh!:

Well even if it were there, I wouldn't call it easy pickin in GWX. :yep: :ping: :know:

They are NEVER easy pickings. Because

(1) In 1944, air patrols are 24-hour non stop

(2) The task force is at 20kt, a little bit faster than your type XXI (max. 17kts)

(3) Who knows whether the carrier & light cruisers have scout planes??? (In WWII, a light cruiser has 2 scout planes, which carry 2 depth charges each

For me, easy pickings are tankers in Carnabbin (2 T3s in pairs. No escort) in 1942~1943
After 1943, to me, no easy pickings

Freetown has been good to me lately for ez tonnage. The last 3 patrols I have been sent on down in that area I have swung by on gotten a passenger liner, medium tanker as a minimum every time all tied up nice to the docks. It's so easy in fact the last 2 times I just bottomed out and sat there long enuff to reload and pick off a medium cargo and large tanker as well.

Usually it seems the harbor is patrolled by a armed trawler and sometimes a DD as well.

I wanted to post a screenshot along with my post but imageshack.us isn't working right now:damn:, but if you looked at the heading of the Task Force you'll notice that it's headed towards Bergen ie. you. Air patrols don't mean anything because I'm travelling at snorkel depth at ahead one-third with my snorkel up, thus the 13kts. Your basically headed towards each other is what I'm saying and I've never seen a carrier launch planes to hunt you down, the cruisers are Dido class, not Fiji so they don't have scout planes and I've never seen one been launched from a cruiser as well. There's absolutely no way for the Fleet Carrier to get away from you, it spawns there every time I start a patrol from Bergen which I usually transfer to around '44, it's almost as if the designers just wanted you to get renown near the end of the war for acoustic torpedos or something. Every other convoy/task force/ASW group I've ran into seemed totally random but this is ridiculous! I'll try posting a screenie when imageshack.us gets it's act together but until then...try it out before you uninstall everything for GWX.

edit: here you go guys...good hunting(I didn't actually sink this one because I felt sorry for it, I think I sunk it 10 times or more, it's good for renown if you want acoustic eels)

Not sure (can't remember) if they are still in that area :hmm: ....but believe me if they are ...you will find it more 'challenging' in GWX :yep:

Which means that if you see them after 1944 and you don't dive and run away you will probably die :nope:
