Today i woke up, grabbed some food, and sat down to play SHIII. My pc had been scanning for viruses over night, and when i looked onto the screen there was an error message (White typing on blue background) My computer has been slow lately, and when i checked the error log, i found this messages:
Enheten \Device\Harddisk1\D har en dårlig blokk
In english: Unit\device\harddisc1\D has a bad block
It was not just one of these messages, but about 40.....
I search on google for this, and found out that i had to backup everything on my C:\ disk, since it was about to crash!

Can someone shed a light on this?

Sounds asif your HD is about to die mate..Eww not good, not good indeed.:nope:
Best case scenario, It may need re-formatting
Worst case scenario, New HD  Really sorry to hear that Seth mate.
I would offer you my spare HD, but it's only 20GB and quite old now

What about the scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors option . Right click local disc / properties / tools / error checking

I have had many HDDs die in the past, although I managed to avoid losing data somehow. These days, I always make sure to burn off everything I want to keep on DVD-R in case of an emergency crash. Although in the last few years, my newer and larger HDDs don't seem to having any major problems at all. Not that I'm complaining, but I wish I could say the same for CD-ROMs - they seem to die at a rate of one per year.:shifty:

Sorry to hear that your HDD has bad sectors - which cannot be repaired

You should start backup files now, since the files will be lost once your harddisk is down

But that can also be a good news - which you can buy a big harddisk and try all the mods (with SH4 also, perhaps after its release)

Thanx for your concern, peterloo, i really appreciate that! I've moved my SHIII folder over from C:\ to E:\ (my other drive). The size of my drives are 80 GB each, but i think i will replace the c:\ with a 120 GB..

Edit: OH MY *********** GOD!!
When i moved the GW folder to e:\ the game ran soft like velvet. No laggin' + fast load time, High FPS!! Maybe this error on C:\ has been there for a while...

Did you defrag your old HD often?

Sounds like a definite hardware thing then. Then you're definitely in winning position by getting a new and well-greased drive - such a pain when they slow your games down :D

Yea, well, you're lucky to be able to get all the important stuff out though.

I lost a completely custom SHIII install with my HD back in May :dead: Up until then I was one of the few people that had an up-to-date SHIII version without supermods.

Ah well. Computers :damn:

Thats just bad, mate:cry:. Sorry for your loss..
I had a similar crash this spring, but with no early warning. The disk suddenly started "grinding", like someone put sand into it, and then it died.. Because of that, im now constantly on the lookout for indications of such happenings..
Better safe than sorry..

Hello there _Sith_ :) ;)

I not shure if thise will help but in case you have nothing to lose try thise. Works for me ones - i manage to bring to life my very old hard drive (to recover data).
Ok you will need some streght, take your broken hard disc - (after you removed it from the pc) and shake it (like barben make a coctail  ) for 2-3 seconds.

DO thise after you recover all the data!!!!

whats the size of your HD?

btw, if you buy a new on...buy 2 HD's
for example you want 200 Gig storage

buy 2 x 100 gig Hd's , so if one dies, its not such an disaster :yep:
and to go a bit further place a cheap 40 gig HD to it

so you get 200 gig for ur personal storage
and the 40 gig you use for the Windows, Drivers, and basic programs to run the Computer.

so also when formatting the PC you dont have to back it all up.
you formatate the 40gig partition . so when you reinstall windows you still have all ur data.

just a tip.

HunterICX

(in my older Pentium 4 it still runs a very old HD of 4 gigs that I had in my Pentium 2 from 1997 - 1998) that bloody thing wont just DIE!!!

@ dimitrius07: _Sith_....:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Just keep yoda away.....
"mmm-mmmm.....Laugh you must.."

Hunter & Stabiz: My disk (C:\) was 80 Gb. Its now being replaced with a 320 GB, And i still have my other 80 GB disk to use for personal things etc... Im actuallty writing this on my girlfriends laptop, since my rig still is at the computer hospital.. Im also adding 512 MB RAM, so i will have a total of 2 GB. I think maybe the only bottleneck will be the CPU, though.. Its a 3200+ something, i think..
