I am having graphics problems with SH2 with Windows XP. I can install the game and it works for the most part, but there is a flickering on the screen. I cannot always read gauges or maps all the time. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and used the patch. Same problem! THe game worked fine on my old PC, which was Windows ME. Can anyone help me? I'm not a computer genius so please be patient. I would really like to be able to play this game again.

Thanks,

Sepp

Only a couple of things spring to my (small) mind:

Video drivers, or a dodgy power supply - to either the video card or the monitor.

If it only affects SH2, I'd probably go with the drivers first, although in rare cases, it can actually make things worse:cry:

Try to use the ver 1.1 patch first.

Without that patch, the game will DEFINITELY not work in Windows Xp

All,

Thanks for your replies, sorry I have not checked in a while. I installed the patch that the game instructed to use, 1.1 I think. I only have this problem with this game so I'm guessing it is a driver or video card issue. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 6800 video card as far as I know. Please advise if this helps.

Thanks!!!

Some of the old versions of NVIdia drivers caused graphic corruptions in SH2, but that was fixed later. Get the latest drivers for your card and see if it works.

I had such high hopes of getting SH II to run crash-free, but it seems my stock Dell video adapter can't handle it. Training missions are fine, but on the first mission of the Aces Kampaign, I got a crash.

This makes me sad, as I had everything looking good (even found a water mod that was satisfactory).

I see no way to get around the problems other than upgrading the video card. :damn:

That being said, I've had to put SH II back in drydock. Getting SH III to run is presently out of the question.

Hi
Have you tired running the program in 98 mode?
right click the desktop icon for sh2 and look @ properties
try running it in 98 mode.

I have found in past that i need to run older nvid drivers
to get older games to work in xp.

56.72 was a good stable nvid driver for older games

Hi,

Thanks for the tip. I tried running the program in 98 mode and still no luck. I had high hopes, but I still have the same flickering problem.

I finally got this game to work on my computer!!! Ended up being something with the graphics driver. I was able to contact NVIDIA and they helped me solve the problem.

Thanks to all who replied!

It would help if you told us what you did to fix it, as I am having the same problems.

Having some problems here too with WinXP SP2.

Install goes fine, but when I press the shortcut it just goes blank. Nothing happens. I got the newest Nvidia drivers & Quicktime that came with the game.

EDIT: Got the game to start now, but all the letters and buttons are messed up.

Again, NVidia drivers problems most likely :hmm:

When I used to plan on my old machine with a NVidia Ti4600, all my problems were fixed by turning off environmental bump mapping in the game options.
