Interesting documentary just now on U-864 (U-864 - Hitler's Last Secret), sunk by British sub HMS Venturer in Feb '45 off the Norwegian coast. According to the documentary, the only submerged/submerged sinking ever, which seems to be correct looking at uboat.net . Carrying, if the doc is correct, jet engine parts and 65 tons of mercury to Japan. The mercury is quite the environmental problem and there were plans afoot to raise the boat because of the environmental risk. The doc looks to have been put out maybe late last year or early this year, 'cause it fits with the last news stories about it on uboat.net , the latest of which was jan06.

Anybody know if anything has happened with this since?

Ack, I must've just missed it, though I did see the show about the discovery of U-869 off the coast of New Jersey.
Can't say I've heard anything recently about U-864 though...

After watching the "Battle of the Atlantic" on the History channel ,I've lost all faith in the channel's credibility....still I''ll check this one out.
