South Korea's Intelligent Surveillance and Guard Robot is a robotic sentry gun designed to detect and if necessary fire upon intruders along the border with North Korea.

The Intelligent Surveillance and Guard Robot is the first fully robotic system to offer surveillance, tracking, firing and voice recognition built into the same device. "Until now, technology allowed these robots to conduct monitoring function[s] only. But [now] our robots can detect suspicious moving objects, literally go after them, and can even fire at them," said Sang-Il Han, principal research engineer at Samsung Techwin. This robotic sentry gun is able to use voice recognition to check on answers to the "Who goes there?" query. If the intruder is unable to provide the necessary access code when at a distance of ten meters, the Intelligent Surveillance and Guard Robot can either sound an alarm, fire rubber bullets or make use of its K-3 machine gun. Prototypes will be tested this year; deployment along the border could take place as early as late 2007.

How the next thing they can do is make it mobile :nope:
And tough luck if you've got a thick accent.....

I dunno, up on the DMZ, it seems more than appropriate :hmm:

Now in someone's backyard, hell no!

I doubt it works as advertised. It's just a trick to scare the North Korean refugees away. Quite expensive trick though. So why don't we put it to good use and get 100,000 of them all over the Mexican border. If anybody wants to cross with drugs, people or whatever they'll have to either: 1) dig a tunnel, 2) swim (use a boat). Tunnels are expensive, time consuming and, ooops!, you can accidentaly demolish them with the users inside. Boats can be easily detected.

Welcome, Robonator. What's the term for a robot massacre against humans? Not a Robocide. A Robotarnage? He'll be a Boturderer. Mr. Robyseven. Domo arigato Mr. Assassinoto. Medic!

Imagine if was installed with windows OS! I can see the report now.... Bill Gates killed by security robot after it failed to recognize the pass word given. The robot said it was the wrong pass word, but test later revealed that a software glitch made it unable to recognize when a correct pass word was given.

or how about.... Robot terrminates terminator!! Hasta la vista, Arnie!:rotfl:

This sounds very similar to the fictional sentry guns used in the Aliens film. Remember how they set them up in the hall and it basically shot at anything that moved which resulted in an Alien slaughter. So for me this is more Aliens rather than Robocop or Terminator.

There is a proposal to inject Millions of pounds into Helensburgh in 2007 i.e. Swimming Baths in need of a facelift [they haven't been renovated for years]. I can't make my mind up where you get the best Fish and Chips tho ? Helensburgh or Whitby [one of my other favourite places.]

Someone here made a good point....ya take any thinking out of the equation and make it strictly motion based....if it moves shoot...sentry guns/mine fields....then there is no room for error...if you go there you die...known to all.

Totally useless device.
Any sniper can disable its sensors at once.

It is like the sensors at the south US border, the mexicans damage them at a bigger rate than they can be repaired.
