Carrer: Change Base And Sub Type 1940

hi, it is july 1940, 7th flotille based in kiel and currently using a class VII. i have read (communitymanuals) about st nazaire being available in 1940 and about other available subs.

as a noob, what i would like to ask you is... when in 1940 does st nazaire become available (going around england is too long!)?? how?? i guess it will be seen in the transfers (telephone picture in the menu) but so far, nothing...

also i would like to ask you whether it's worth to change to a class ix. if yes, how should i do it? sorry for these noob questions, but since it is the carrer "branching" i thought i could ask.

The Biscay bases are available approx Sept 40
You will be transfered to one as a matter of course with your flotilla anyway

If you have enugh renown and the IX appears on your equipment upgade screen you can buy it :up:

The France bases are availeble pretty late in '40, oktober/november (from the top of my head). The IX class of subs have more torps and greater range, but much slower diving times and less manouvereble. Its just a matter of playingstyle/taste I guess. Personally I like the IX better ;)

just reached that part: i came accross the bug. in the sub pen at kiel, i continually get radio messages: "new base: st nazaire", then "new base: kiel", then "new base: st nazaire", then kiel... and so on.

been looking at community manuals but didn't find it. do you remember where it was please?? any help appreciated. many thanks

The problem is #19 in the Community Manual under "Known Bugs", but it's vague as to a solution...but if you go to Subsim's own Tactics and Tips section, it describes the problem and the solution near the bottom of the page under Troubleshooting:


7th Flotilla Radio Bug
There is a bug with the 7th flotilla whereby if you are in 7th Flotilla in September 1940 and thereafter the game will keep telling you "New Base Kiel" and then "New Base St. Nazaire" whenever you load up the career. The problem is that the Flotilla.cfg lists 7th Flotilla as being in both places during that month. To fix the bug, go into Flotilla.cfg and scroll down to the 7th Flotilla listing. There you'll find the following lines:
Flotilla2=904
TO2=940
NbStartingDate2=5
NbDate2=7
Emblem2=data/Emblems/SubEmblems/Flotillas/7th flotilla.tga
NbBases2=3
Base2_0=750;Kiel
Date2_0_0=1939
Month2_0_0=8
Date2_0_1=1940
Month2_0_1=9
The last number - the 9 is what needs to be changed. Change it to 8 and that should solve the problem.

thanks. actually i ran my patrol with the radio station empty - i placed the radio guy somewhere else (the radio messages would go on forever! :stare: ) so i would get no messages at all. desperate, but i had to do something.

i completed that patrol and now i got a "patrol" (the next one after that) which is patrol area NULL starting kiel, ending st. nazaire. basically move there. so thanks for your replies anyway.

btw i have 17.000 renown or something, any idea when i will be able to buy myself a class ix??
