Country music is almost non-existent over here in the UK. Back home in Oz the country music scene is alive and well and there have been some artists which have made it in the States. Obviously compared to the US it is small. Where is Slim Dusty? :D

There was a great Scottish series called Transatlantic Sessions from the 90's where many country artists played with luminaries of the trad. folk movement in the Isles. Here are a couple of my faves from that show. The first is the Sweetheart of the Rodeo, Emmylou Harris with two of my favorite Irish singers, Mary Black & Delores Keane singing the song "Sonny".

The second is Iris Dement and Emmylou singing Dement's song, the hauntingly beautiful,"Our Town." Two of the purest female country voices around these days.

Heres a good christmas country song :D

A Christmas Story

'Twas the night before Christmas--Old Santa was pissed.
He cussed out the elves and threw down his list.
Miserable little brats, ungrateful little jerks.
I have a good mind to scrap the whole works!

I've busted my ass for damn near a year,
Instead of "Thanks Santa"--what do I hear?
The old lady bitches cause I work late at night.
The elves want more money--The reindeer all fight.

Rudolph got drunk and goosed all the maids.
Donner is pregnant and Vixen has AIDS.
And just when I thought that things would get better
Those *******s from the IRS sent me a letter,
They say I owe taxes--if that ain't damn funny
Who the hell ever sent Santa Claus any money?

And the kids these days--they all are the pits
They want the impossible--Those mean little ****s
I spent a whole year making wagons and sleds
Assembling dolls...Their arms, legs and heads
I made a ton of yo yo's--No request for them,
They want computers and robots...they think I'm IBM!

Flying through the air...dodging the trees
Falling down chimneys and skinning my knees
I'm quitting this job there's just no enjoyment
I'll sit on my fat ass and draw unemployment.

There's no Christmas this year now you know the reason,
I found me a blonde. I'm going SOUTH for the season

They certainly are still around. Infact, they should be releasing 'Der Katalog' soon, which has several of their old albums, digitally remastered :D

Oh yea, Kraftwerk.

Their evil twins certainly had to have an appearance in the movie "The big Lebowski", German existentialists, dressed in black, who cut off their little finger.

I am very much a fan of French "'ip 'op". Listening to French Hip Hop gets my exited like this young fellow in "La belle et le bad boy"
