View Full Version : Boat Damaged After Saved Game

When I re-load a saved game, the new session starts with the boat shuddering and all the glasses on the dials shattering. Sometimes damage is reported. I saw a reference to this in a post/thread some time ago but can't re-find it. It really pi**es me off. Is this a bug? Is it the Devs way of punishing players who save mid-patrol? Is there any way to prevent it? Can the damage inflicted be repaired (have tried but can't see how)?

I thought the post I saw referred to saving while submerged. I should try saving when on the surface to see what happens.

Appreciate comments/advice.

Noticed that happening when the boat had been damaged previously during the patrol at the start of all following saves. No damage though, just making the shattered dials reappear.

Strange.
One would think he would notice if he were dead.

I believe the game is re-establishing the state of the boat before the save...if the boat was damaged before the save. I have run into this problem but I do not have hull damage add or anything. If your boat was not damaged at time of save and this happens on the next start up, then it is a bug. Your boat should not have renown costing damage none the less. Understand that saving while submerged can affect the save and also in the presence of warships. I have not experienced this myself but others have. They usually save surfaced and away from warships.

I never save a game in mission I always complete a patrol and then exit in the normal way,my hull integrity was around 80% my flak gunner all four were wounded, even when I docked the boat the mission summery said 52 healthy 4 wounded clicked next "DEAD"reloaded did the same patrol without any injuries docked the boat "dead" 4 times this happened at the end I gave up and scrubbed out all my careers out.I have'nt a clue if somehow my saved files got corrupt,or what.

How do you guys do that ? You leave your PC running 24/24 ? Takes me minimum a week at 4/5 hours a night to complete an average normal 4 weeks patrol...

Do you play in real time???? Because I do play in high time compression as I don't have a lot of time to play. Usually in 3-4 hours (at the most) the mission (2-4 weeks real time) is done :D

I play at no higher than 256 TC, and it usually takes me 3 or 4 sessions to complete a 4 week patrol. If real life calls and I'm around a warship, or if I'm submerged, I'll just leave the game paused and the computer on until I can come back. Otherwise I go ahead and save.

Knock on wood, I've never run into a problem yet.

I play max 128 TC (for airplane spawning) and all action phases real time. It can happen I spend a couple of hours evading DC attacks (usually standing at the hydrophone) and don't see the time go by... Can be an hour just getting in position for a convoy attack.

Usually I play all action phases in real time, but during taxi (especially in mid atlantic) I set the time compression ot 1024. I wish I could play more but due to job and other real life requirements I cannot give more than 2-3 hours per couple of days :nope: :nope:
Especially this period with loads of work and the GWX Beta Testing as well it was a bit difficult to find time to play a normal career. Thankfully GWX (even the beta version) was more than enough to keep me going :D :D

Don't aircraft spawn just as well at 256 TC?

Not always. To be sure that they will appear you have to be at 128 and below

If you really want to encounter aircraft, run at 128 TC and always have your Radar on, It's like a plane magnet:up:

Thanks for the replies. It's 128 TC max for me from now on.

If you set SHIII Commander TC to 1 for "When Enemy Plane(s) Appear", you can run TC at 256 or even 512 and have no problem seeing the enemy a/c attack. With plenty of time to CD, or shoot back..... if you're on the surface with your flak guns manned. I'm in Oct of 43 now and can't go anywhere without being hit on by the enemy while surfaced. Even the snorkle draws 'em in. Right now I'm after a convoy in AE 87 and have been attacked by B-24s and PBYs constantly..... and in flights of 6 to 8 even. Very frustrating if you need to reload from your external stores. :yep:

I have TC set to 1024 but only use a max of 256, with 512 for RTB only, as 1024 will change weather faster to very stormy I've found. At 256 my weather stays mostly the same for most of a patrol. But that also depends on the time of year as weather can get very nasty during hurricane season. ;) No, hurricanes aren't modeled in SHIII and I wouldn't want to be at sea in one either, unless I was submerged at 100 meters for the duration.

I save many times during a patrol and have never had any problems continuing on. The only thing is sub damage that will make the shattering of dials when you reload.. as Corsair says. Andy you must have had something get corrupted. I've had that happen by adding a mod(and any mod can do it) by mistake during a patrol. Too much af a big hurry to get a skin in or some other grreat mod. That is the only way I've lost a career. Just make sure you backup your SHIII folder in My Documents every once in awhile, just to be safe.
