What do people from the UK (and elsewhere)think about the possibility of Scotland
leaving the union with England and Wales?

I am under the impression that it would be economically better for England and Worse for Scotland.However it is a very popular idea in Scotland and also among some people in England.


Mabye it would solve problems or it could create more.
What do people think?

The problem if they do, they will have to answer to their new masters the E.U. :nope:

But if Scotland became separate from England and the European Union, I've would move up there as fast as possible. :D

i would happily wave them goodbye, too many policies that only/mainly effect england are dictated by scottish ministers.

and let scots put there hands in there pockets to fund the bloated scottish parliment.

Only if it's done after a realistic re-enaction of one of the Medieval Battles. By realistic I mean people must die. Which means we need to choose a fairly boring and bloodless battle, unless there are that many volunteers. Well, you could always rely on convicts: if you survive, you're free to go...to the opposing side's country!

Its one of those amusing sideshows in British politics that comes up when the government in Westminster is unpopular. It last happened in the mid nineties (remember Braveheart) and was tauted before that in the seventies.

But when it comes to elections and the Scottish public actually look at the finer details of the debate, they begin to notice serious problems. Scotlands position in the world, the loss of a large amount of resource distribution from the rest of the UK. The Scottish National Party claims that it can fund a Scottish economy on North Sea Oil - and publishes figures to prove it. The problem is, the figures come from studies of oil reserves made in the 1970's and the oil has long gone by now.

In Wales its the same debate, but the answers Plaid Cymru (the Welsh Nationalist party) come up with are equally rediculious. They claim there is a resource only found in Wales that they can sell to the English that will fund the Welsh economy - Dyhydrogen Monoxide :doh:

I just remembered a quote,

I'm sure there will be people on both sides of the border who would be happy with the split, as well as others who wouldn't. How is Scotland going to fund itself after the North sea oil runs out? and the population is shrinking as more leave than arrive.

Will they raise there own defence force? Will england still have baseing rights? What happens to scots serving in Britsh forces? You could go on with all the different problems, but they will have to be addressed.

Going to be interesting times in the possibly Ex-UK!
