Ahoy Shipmates, I am currently at Periscope Depth in the Port of Gibralta which is suprisingly deep 70 meters at some points.
Anyway, heres my dilema, there are a few medium merchants alongside, also some neutral merchants too, and about 4 Royal Navy destroyers, nothing substantial.
I was expecting there to be alot more ships in too be honest but never mind, anyway im wondering weather to just sit tight and maybe wait for a big battleship to pull in or maybe a passenger liner or just hit what I can now and then sprint back to Thalia (milk cow) in Cadiz for a reload. Im operating in July of 1940 with the GW mod so im not sure if anything will dramatically change in Gibralta at this time.

PS.Having been to Gibralta a few times in real life on a Royal Navy submarine i can say that the scenery in SH3 GW 1.1 is fairly impressive and quite accurate.

Hi there if i was you i would just hit what is in port now including the DD's:arrgh!:
Then run back to the resuply vessel. Also i found casablanca to be a easy port to get into and it had a few juice merchants in there but no big battle wagons.

hi sonic,

i've been to gibraltar a few times also, i think there are mainly DDs and medium merchants there, so it's not really worth the risk, but worth a look.

last patrol i went to casablanca and found 2 or 3 medium tankers and 3 troopships, 2 DDs and some landing craft. this was in 44'. that was a pretty decent catch. I don't think there are any big ports in that area that have big battle ships in port regularly... been to darkar too but not really worth the trip.

1940 Gibraltor is pretty tame until later on. But hey, it's your boat and your free to fly about the oceans!

Take what opportunity has granted. If you save everything for later there may not be one.

I decided to blow a couple of medium merchants up and make a dash for the med, being chased out of the straights by anything with a gun mounted on it, got away though, now heading for La Spezia for weapon load and pizza, will head back to Gib on completion and give it another bash.

BTW: Why is it some times you sink a merchant with just 2 eels and other times it takes more than 4 to sink the same class of vessel??:hmm:

Im hitting them all dead center, sometimes they break in half, other times they just list over but never actually sink.:x very frustrating

You need to aim for their wek points (fuel bunkers, engine room, etc) to get one shot kills. I get around 85% of my kills with one shot now since learning of this and it makes the job much easier.:arrgh!:

It should be marked in your recognition manual (colored areas of ships).

Check these out for a more comprehensive view of the critical areas (these are for the stock version of the game but most of them should do the trick in GW/NYGM)

I'm surprised that having been there a few times you consistently misspell Gibraltar.

I've been into the straits heading toward Gibraltar several times the over the weekend, but never actually reached the harbor. Last night I was jumped by 3 destroyers and 4 torpedo boats. I sent all 3 destroyers to the bottom after some cat and mouse, then noticed the torpedo boats apparently got scared and took off.
I was low on torpedoes and fuel, so I headed home, rather than risk it.
I'm sure glad it was dark out, as that seemed to make a difference in them finding me.

I did learn my lesson awhile back.. stay out of the English Channel. Ugly ugly place for a uboat.

Tool.
