Hi,

Question for you old captains..

In "The Enemy Below" the Captain of the Escourt Des had his depth charges set at 150 f (I believe) which the U Boat was pinged at When the De started his run the Captain of the U boat went to 50 M under the Des and full back and got away.

1. Would this work in SH III (GW)?
2. Would the depth charges at 150 f mask the U boats propellers?
3. Would the detonating DC mask the sonar return to the Des long enough for the U Boat to get away?

I don't know about the other stuff but 150 feet and 50 meters are about the same.

You can change depth while a destroyer is in atack run and the charges will goto your pinged depth.

As long as you are directly behind an attacking escort they can't hear you.(unless they stop)

Denotating DC's will mask you engine sounds while they are detonating.

So all in all you will have a short amount of time to conduct evasive manouvers.

All this can be done in GW1.1a + anyother mod.

In real life depth charges could not be set for just any depth; the settings were in 25-foot increments. Also, depth charges had to be dropped 'blind', that is they were dropped after the destroyer had lost contact, giving the u-boat a few seconds to change speed, course and depth. This is not modelled in the stock game, but some of the mods have fixed it.

Loss of contact for a minute or more due to disturbance of the water is not modelled, as far as I know.
