One question , from whitch range do you usually fire your eels?
I think the optimal range are 1500-2500m depending on the weather and time

For me favourite distance is between 500 and 800m... Problem from 1942 on is to get there !

There are a lot of variables that go into making long shots. If the convoy or ships are not in a zig zag pattern, then shooting past 2000m is not unheard of and getting a hit or hits.
If there are a lot of ships in a line I will launch a whole bow load at the front ship and sometimes another of my torps will hit another ship behind it.. I usually only shoot past 2000m if the ships are slow.
If you are up against a fighting ship, I won't even think about shooting untill within 900m or less. I have launched torps and then see the ship zig or zag and miss completely. I will also switch the fish to fast, depending on if I have one capable in the tube, to help ensure a hit.
It is all a judgement call. What the situation is around you deepends on how you make an attack. Each person is different and does things different ways. Just seeing what works for you and adjusting to the tactics of the enemy will get you far.

I normally approach to 400 - 800 meters before firing. This assures positive ID of the target (important during the early years). It also decreases the impact of any errors in targeting due to target ship speed, course and AoB. In addition, the torpedoes' running time is very short. The target has little opportunity to evade if they spot the trail of the steamers. It also greatly decreases the odds of premature detonation, as the run time is under 20 seconds, rather than 1 -3 minutes.

I get to within 2000m or less! Better chance of a hit and if you spread the torpedoes you can hit other vessels.

Never more than 1000, usually 500 or less.

Anywhere from 500m to 3000m depending on the situation. Against a convoy though I like to be in tight.

Early days within 1000m but since testing GWX I have to admit the escorts seldom afford me that luxury :yep:

I try to set up around 500m from the path and if I'm within 400m I put it in reverse for a couple of seconds.

It depends on the target. If I'm shooting at DDs or other warships I tend to fire somewhere between 400-1000m. If there are merchants you can fire from longer distances. The optimum distance for me is 1000-1500m for merchants, but I have attacked convoys from 4000-4500m with big success. It depends on the situation and the target.

I usulay fire upon sighting the target. (I run 46%) I also use the Automatic TDC unless in very bad weather. The farthest shot I made was 5000 KM and that was a Battleship.

500-1000m is perfect. Against convoys, 1000-2000 m.

IMO anything over 4000m with manual targetting is too risky :yep: Unless of course you have some 'acoustics'
