A lot of people will warn that radar is a really big liability. In spite of this, I like it quite a lot. I feel that as long as you use it responsibly, it doesn't hurt your own stealth significantly. The trick is to keep it OFF by default. In very poor weather, I use hydrophones to get near a merchant, and have the radar give me his exact position. This saves time and fuel, and also helps get me in an optimum firing position. The 'single sweep' function is also handy, since it allows you to use radar a little more precisely.

I'm looking forward to using radar manually, using the wiki tutorial as a guide. I did have a few questions:

1.) The FUMO29 set has a very limited coverage arc (a total of 20 degrees in front of the ship, thus only revealing stuff in front of you) the FUMO30 set has a rotating antenna, allowing better coverage. There are a few more sets after this; what do they do? Do you ever get decent range out of the radar?

2.) Can enemy ships/planes detect your radar beyond your own detection range? I have heard that your own radar detector can detect radar from ships/planes that have not necessarily spotted you.

3.) About radar detectors- what do you get out of the better sets? Better detection range?

2) Some of the Allied radar sets yes. It depends on the year. As a rule of thumb, 1943 the situation is bad and in 1944 it couldn't get worse..

3) Both better detection range and faster sweeping. Very useful fror planes.
