Ahoy shipmates....If you have an injured man or men and you have a medic onboard how does your medic heal the casulaties, is it just a case of placing these men in the same compartment as the medic and he does the rest or is there more to it. I have one medic onboard.

According to some that is correct :yep: but according to others (and this includes me) there doesn't appear to be any obvious signs that the medic does anything :o

Yes, he does. My two last patrols I put the wounded (two flak gunners) in the same compartment as the medic, and they were both healed a couple of days later.

Normally I'll place the medic in one of the crew compartments and place injured crewmen there with the medic.

I do have to admit, though, that I've only had two instances of wounded crew in over several hundred patrols. It's usually all-or-nothing, it seems, with me: either we all come back on our shields, healthy and whole . . . or we all are feeding the fishes. :-?

Yeah, I've only had two casualties over about 20 patrols or so.

I think it depends on the sort of wound, if it's a flesh wound then no problem but if it's a shot thru the head and bleedin all over the banana's then get the medic in ASAP [usually find him skiving in the Stern Quarters]

Better to put the Medic and the wounded man in the same compartment.

Talk about topic hijacking :o

:rotfl:

So in all the medic is about as much use as "tits on a on a fish" as we say in the real submarine world:doh:

Not always. I've had a couple of situations where I've been able to save two or three guys with the medic. It just happens rarely. Mostly if the get hit they die instantly rather than just get injured.

I'm with the others. I've had medics given to me by SH3 commander, and I don't notice them doing anything. It's usually "MEN DOWN ON DECK, SIR!" or nothing. For the sparse amount of injured crewmen you're liable to run into, I'd say they're a waste of time.

From what I've read, BdU agreed with that assessment as well.

No, medics are not useless. They are useless most of the time, but say you have an 18 patrol flak gunner with tons of medals that get injured (happened to me yesterday), and he survives because of the medic. Not a waste IMO.

Using the medic also accelerates fatigue recovery for the sailors in the same crew quarters.

I have not seen evidence of a viable effect in other compartments.

Thats a bit more useful then (seeing as I avoid shooting at anything that can shoot back and rarely have "wounds")

As a physician, I would like more injured and ill sailors on the patrols. I have only had a couple of injured in over a year of playing the game. When we get dc or attacked, I usually only get killed sailors.

In real life medics were rarely put on u-boats because they were considered a valuable resource that was better deployed on other fronts. In Iron Coffins Herbert Werner explained that on the only occassion he had a doctor aboard, the doctor was so ill with sea sickness that he was pretty much a waste of space.

In SHIII my medic has not yet been called upon, but then again I'm only on my 11th patrol in November 1940.

I'll guess some of the crew had some minor medical training?

That seems like a much more useful effect. On a long IX cruise that would be valuable.

I think that there is an encyclopedia of little tid bits the Kpt. Lehmann has bubbling in his brain.:know:

Most probably. The U-Tankers tended to have doctors on board, so boats on long patrols could transfer any crew members that were ill over to the tanker.
