Hi guys,
My name is Tony Treadwell and I am the Founder and COO of GameShadow.
As many of you know (lots of people from the Silent Hunter III install have become GameShadow users!) GameShadow was included in the Silent Hunter III installation and we have happily supported the title ever since.
We are a very small company, but very focused on customer service, personally I am an avid gamer and my desire to make getting content for gamers was the seed that grew GameShadow to what it is today.
I'm also a huge modding fan, and I know there are some fantastic modders associated with this site.
This is one of the reasons I have arrived here. We have until recently been offering the Sea Wolves expansion pack and until someone mentioned that this pack may have included work from people right here in this forum and elsewhere, without financial benefit or return. I've since instructed this expansion pack to be pulled until further notice from GameShadow. This is why I am here! :)
On the one hand I want to promote more mods in GameShadow, offer a service to you guys, for free, give us the top 10 mods and we'll do a special page in GameShadow so that all SH players can get them fast and free. Anyone interested?
Also to say "Hello", we want to support you, and we are gamers at heart and have a duty to make sure the best stuff gets out to our audience, and do just to all the modders out there that do this stuff for the love of a game.
Anyway, I've waffled on too long.
All the best,
Tony (TT)

Welcome aboard.
Neal, can you give this man a better avatar? I think he deserves it.

I'm sure many would be interested.
I can't speak for them but maybe you would like to contact NYGM & Grey Wolves (up coming release of GWX) team leaders and see if they would be interested.
There are soooo many great mods to choose from, maybe Neal could help you.
Again, welcome and enjoy your stay.

Hi guys, no worries.
I'm really keen to get some of the best mods up there...we can even help with an installer if people want some help. I'd be happy to choose a few doesn't matter how many, lets start somewhere, and get it up as a GameShadow feature.
People can grab me at tony at gameshadow.com and we can go from there! Sounds like Grey Wolves could be a good candidte, how do we get that moving?
All the best,
Regards,
TT

Gameshadow... I have never installed it, always a little suspicious of 'free' programs like this.
How sure are we that this isnt some kind of spyware/addware?

I have it from some game I loaded. It basically just lets you know if there updates or patches out for the games on your hard driver. Perfectly harmless.

Hi and welcome TT
The Kpt will no doubt be contacting very shortly re your very generous offer
Cant give too much info on here as they are all panting for the release of GWX but the Kpt will give you all the details you need
Thanks again
Welcome aboard, Tony!
The GWX is currently in beta testing phase and should be released to the public somewhere during December if everything works out well. Our project manager, Kpt.Lehmann, isnt home yet, so cant really say what he thinks about this. ;)
Anyways, enjoy your stay here at SS. :D

Hi TT
Welcome to Subsim:up:
I think your idea about hosting some of the mods from the community to be a very good idea, and Im sure the many modders here would thank you very much for the support:up:

Hosting the various mods like the eagerly anticipated GWX on a big site would help to expand the SH3 base and benefit the SH3 community and its future.
It would be much appreciated.

Sounds good guys. And no it isn't Spyware...why do you think I would develop that sort of product? :S.
Anyway, we've worked hard on GameShadow, and it's pretty unique, try it it's free.
Enough selling our product! :)
Any mods we can get on with right away that you would like us to support?

As already stated by others your offer sounds okay...but as far as GWX is concerned that is really up to the Kpt. to decide :yep:

Call me a 'Doubting Thomas' but when something sounds too good to be true then usually it ain't ?!
I think this sounds great!
Grey Wolves (GW1.1a) is currently the most popular mod, I think, and a sure thing to go with first.
There are several "supermods", so there will be no problem with finding 10 to list.

Might be a waste of time with GW1.1A with the release of GWX so close
Of course if you want to do both we arent going to say no :rotfl:
Uboat war ace 2 is at beta testing stage too
Am sure Hansolo will be in contact
Not sure where NYGM are up too - 2.2 or 2.3 may be the latest but I cant say that for sure
Someone from the NYGM team will confirm with you I am sure

Sounds good guys. Could someone email me with details of each mod, some blurb, text and great things it contains? Then a link to the mod....we'll do the rest...

Remember to mention who has made those mods, mate (and copyright)... The mod-topic is a fragile thing, due to recent happenings, as you know....

Hi there, I'm looking to get some of your stuff up there and promote it, I'm not looking to get money out of this, just promote the best mods, simple as that. Happy to put whatever text you want with the mod, include any developer notes people want in a readme etc.
I'm asking my contacts at Ubisoft about this whole thing, I'm getting private messages also saying that people will be pissed off with me at Ubisoft for taking this approach with X1. So I'm going to open it all up at Ubisoft and try and get to the bottom of it. I'm not one for getting involved emotionally in this. If we don't find a fair way through it then we just won't support any mods at all for the game rather than get flamed privately or publicy :)
Want to do the right thing and not cause pain to anyone...but make sure it's simple.

Mr Treadwell, I welcome you, and am glad you stuck to your word. I'm sorry I haven't welcomed you sooner, but I was without Internet for over a week. Some Subsim members here already know I was the one who contacted you.
I hope that our super talented modders will step forward and offer their work to Gameshadow. Some I would like to see there are Supermods such as NYGM, The Grey Wolves, and Uboat War Acr Campaign. There are expansions that would be great to add to these, such as GWX, Nor Ops(spelling , sorry Safe Keeper), and my most anticipated UBWA 2.0(Hint Hansolo;))
Once again Mr Treadwell, welcome to our communtity.

Welcome Tony,
I guess it makes sense to start with "promotion" of bigger packages/mod-compilations.
Here is a brief info on what is happening in SH3 world. There are a number of substantial developments/mod-compilations at the moment:
GW (Grey Wolfs), related site http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/GWX/
NYGM (I will not bother with full name ;) ) http://www.wolvesatwar.org/nygm/
UWAC (U-boat War Ace Campaign, quite popular in German community) http://www.realhp.de/members/hansolo78/index.html
UWAW (U-boat War Ace (Wolfpack), popular in Russian community) http://forum.sukhoi.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=122
LSH3 (Living SH3, quite popular in German community) http://www.torpedotreffer.de/
FF (FrontFlottille, quite popular in German community) http://www.9teuflottille.de/index2.html
Also, there are
AODT modpack (http://www.aotd-flottille.de/wbb2/jgs_db.php?action=show&eintrags_id=226&katid=22&sid=)
big mod merging GW and UWAC (GW-UA) by Carotio (http://carotio.awardspace.com/CarotiosModSite/start.html)
pack by Spanish community (http://www.24flotilla.com).
I also advise you to visit German SH3 forums at UBISOFT (http://forums-de.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?a=frm&s=59010161&f=2371008762) where they have well-structured stickies dedicated to most significant mods or modders.

I wonder if a super mod of all additional ships and aircraft can be made, so the people who are happy with the vanilla games don't miss out to much. I know they are done by many different modders, but it would be great to have them in one spot.:yep:

OK thanks for that list. Look, give me a few days to start to get something together ins GS. It will probably take me a week to get things organise and something to show. But I'll use that list above.
I would however like to re-iterate that I'd like an email from the Modders responsible for each of those to tony at gameshadow.com expressing their desire for us to do this. I'd hate to get into a mess with people saying we didn't have "their permission" to put a mod up on GameShadow :) . I hope you can see where I am coming from!
The sooner I get that email for each of those above the sooner we'll do something super duper to promote them in GS :)
Best regards,
TT

Hello Mr. Treadwell / Ballistix,
Welcome to Subsim.com!
Real Life has kept me from posting sooner. I wouldn't worry too much about the negative static you've received so far. Generally speaking, this is one of the friendliest forums around... (Oh yeah... just like anywhere else we certainly do bicker sometimes... but even that is born from the love of what we do.) and on occasion negative people make the most noise.
A few here are "gun-shy" for good reason. They were screwed over by someone else. My team has undergone its own ordeal with theft original un-released material very recently as well.
That being said... there's no reason anyone should flame you (publicly or privately) for doing a thing that is mutually beneficial to all. As long as the freeware mods we produce here... remain freeware that is freely accessible to all with no hidden catch... EVERYONE WINS!!!
I don't think that the average user generally puts a whole lot of thought into the future of where submarine simulations are going tomorrow... or the next day.
Sub simmers and submarine simulations remain in a niche... albeit a niche that has gotten LARGER as time has gone on. I feel this is due to the hard work of freeware modders that keep such things alive much longer than their initial shelf-life.
The originating company makes more money as a result... which motivates them to build MORE cool stuff for us... wash, rinse, and repeat!
I am certain that Ubisoft understands this concept... and I could babble on and on about it.
In short... LIFE is short... people can either look at this as a rare opportunity for increased visibility... which will bring us more talented modders... which propagates our unusual species:sunny: ...
... or as some will, allow paranoia to prohibit progress.
Finally, I think that out of common decency... a man should be respected until reason exists to revoke such respect.
In a few hours I will have a PM for you.
In the meantime... here's your emergency escape gear. (THUMP) It's not entirely useful in an emergency... but will keep the smell of Bernard's feet to a minimum for a time... ummm after the smell comes back... you reeeally need to replace the potash cartridge.

Aye Captain!
I have your private message. We are going to download the Grey Wolves mod. I'd like to suggest you let us wrap it up in a winrar installer so that it is one EXE file? That way we can deliver a single file and it will extract your file and run your installer at the end? Actually, how about this, we'll do an installshield installer for you. One would have to know where the SH3 install directory is but once we have that we could do the rest...the offer is there.
At least we'll do the winrar extracting EXE to make it a single file. As I say I'd be happy to do the Installshield one for you, if you send us some images, or point us to image for your mod we'll brand the installer too for you. :)
Regards,
TT
