View Full Version : Contacts on Chart

I'd be grateful if someone could let me know what it is that determines whether a reported contact appears on the chart as a square mark. Sometimes they show sometimes they don't. I'm in Sept 1939 playing 1.4b/TGW on 97% difficulty (-3% for Event Camera availability). Is it something to do with the quality of the crew? It also seems that this is linked to the ID'ing of the contact type when looking through the attack scope. Am I right in thinking that if the contact is ID'ed by the scope (Eg. 'cargo' shows on the Notepad) then the square mark shows on the chart??

Thanks

KC

Maybe it has something to do with the realism settings. IIRC you can check the box saying "map contact update" or something (dont remember exactly..)

Seth - what's "IIRC"?

If I Remeber Correctly = IIRC

As for radio contacts appearing on the map. Seth is right, the realism setting will stop all contacts on the map showing.

Note, you can change the range in which these contacts will appear by editing the Contacts.cfg file. Have a look and change the ranges.

LOL - that's how you get the Spy Sat to work across the globe, set all radio contact ranges to 999999. Might be overkill but it works.

Hey dan!....isn't that cheating ? :D

LOL - Yes it is, but it has benefits. For example getting good screenshots & finding movie footage.

FYI - I don't play with it on, just enable it when needed.

If I want all contacts to show up on the map only when I have a visual sighting (or within visual range) what must be changed?

I noticed that a contact will show up on the map near my position before I even get a visual, I find this kinda unrealistic and annoying.

Change the first two entries to 0 (Opportunity & Important). This means that you will never receive a radio contact.

Thanks amigo!

Am I wrong when I say I think it's more the 'Opportunity' that I should set to zero. The 'Important' are contacts that Bdu would tell me about?
I'm just looking for the most realistic settings.

Important contacts would be the likes of taskforces/convoys in your area. Opportunity contacts are single merchants etc.

These original settings were put in to partly simulate U-Boat & Luftwaffe reports.

Simulating U-boat and Luftwaffe reports is fine, I just can't stand a map contact popping up simply because I'm near it.
Hmm...what to do...:hmm:

Two choices....

1)Do away with them completely
or
2)Increase the ranges so that there is more of a spread around the oceans.(thus indicating a full coverage campaign of U-Boats and aircraft)

Unfortunatly, you can't tell SH3 - I want contacts reported to me only if they are 5000km away but no further than 15000km away.

Also, you could change the time compression setting of radio contacts received to something that won't interupt your play.

Think I'll set them to zero.
btw isnt Display Range To Important Radio Contacts=1500 ;[>0] kilometers
The [>0] kilometers, isn't that a minimum range I can play around with?

Not sure
You will have to remove the ; as that comments the text following so its not used by the game

Try it and see - Its the only way to be sure
