There was a thread here a while ago about a freeware subsim under development, but there is a beta release. The screenshots are amazing, the sim quality is maybe even better than SH3.
Problem is I can't find the thread or link, anyone got this link or knows more about it?

It certainly looks promising!
Haven't tried it myself - still learing SH3 - let us know how you get on with it.

I can't believe this is freeware, look at those beautiful ship models, details, gauges and so on!

Actually it's much more than just "freeware", it's open source/free software. That means all code source, graphics, sound, etc... are publicly accessible and modifiable. It enables any developer/modder to change anything in the game! No more limitation, the possibilities are endless.
Let's hope it will grow and mature to become the reference in sub sim.

The screens look really good. Looks like a very good piece of work. Worth keeping an eye on me thinks.

When this project is finally finished it's gonna be better than even SH3 with GWX, I think..

You better do that! I'll come after you myself! :shifty:
Well, I would love to try it before judging it. Many good looking games are utter crap. More and more, actually.

Main page got a list of whats included in the download, the game is far from finished. I think the DL only got one mission, but as you can see they plan to include a career mode, very important, and lots of other stuff.
I think this is gonna be the future ultimate subsim when it's ready for the final release in 2008 ;)
And this looks good too........ " The final version will include network play and wolfpack or destroyer vs. submarine matches".
As has been said already, this looks promising and I have to agree with Subwolf. It might even surpass SH4 too. But, we'll have to wait and see as 2008 is a ways off. The graphics look great for the last gallery added. Meanwhile I'll stick with SHIII and the mods.
If the modders here ever go over to "Danger from the Deep", I'm sure they'll be greatly appreciated for the help and knowlege they could supply.
Just tested it, have some potential, oh yes. But there is still much missing. Not as user friendly as shiii, but it got that red triangle.....

2008! But, but, the blardy world could end by then::dead: :damn:
Hey, in 2008 we'll be sitting at home with VR goggles on our heads, playing the newest "GreyWolves of the pacific" mod by the Kpt. + and his crew... Then we dont have time to dwell with open source sims..
But, i welcome all submarine sims, good or bad.. :yep::rock:
Since I live in donga (56k modem) I have emailed the link to my Son (has broadband) will have to wait a while to try it out!
You never know, with community working on open source software the game could end up a very good sim!! Time will tell!!:D

2008 :o ...no way it'll be that good...we'll all be playing SH5 or 6 by then (looking around sheepishly waiting for the first bottle to hit the back of ones head) :D

Exactly, look at Aces of the Deep. In my mind (and many others) still the king of subsims.
Can you imagine if this open source game is as good as AOD...wolfpacks...dynamic radio messages...*drools*

Well I think this is the sim we are all gonna play in the future, a couple of years from now, unless there will be an even better Silent Hunter 5 covering the Atlantic war.
The brains behind "Danger from the deep" looks like they really knows their business. And I can't wait to nail you in multiplayer, jimbuna ;)
