Welcome to SubSim

If you are playing the stock SH game you will not see full harbours. You must either install the harbout Traffic mod (you can find it in the downloads area of SubSim) or a supermod (NYGM or GW)

If you have any other questions feel free to ask. People in these forums are nice and they will be glad to help you.

Good Luck and Good Shooting

Well since GWX is a few weeks away for the 'general public' I did suggest the other two supermods that can be installed instantly.

BTW birdy whatever you do you should try GWX. After that you will not play anything else, EVER AGAIN (well until the next expansion of GWX that is :D :D )

GW is "Greywolves" and GWX is Greywolves Expansion" (not yet released),funny that I tell you this, 'cause I haven't got GW yet.

BTW, all harbors aint deserted. I play stock SH3 and I've seen ships in Port Said, Loch Ewe, Scapa Flow, and Hartlepool. It aint much, and I got a bit pissed when I visited Key West (!!!!) to find nothing......:damn:

I'll get the GWX when it comes out, until then, I'll just play stock.

First of all there are no stupid questions. So don't worry about asking whatever you like. Grey Wolves (GW) is a supermod. It is an add-on to SH3 and gives a totally different approach to the game. Check out this URL for more information http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/TGW/#dl

Also don't forget that GW is FREE. GWX is the new expansion of GW. It should be released at some point in December and my opinion so far (as I'm a beta tester for the team) is that it is BRILLIANT. It takes you to a totally different place. Trust me you will not be disappointed :D :D

Don't forget that you can install GW using the mod enabler http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products.html

That way if you don't like it (!!!!!!!!!) you can always go back and play SH3 without having to uninstall the whole game. Also try to add SH3 Commander (it's in the same link above). It allows you to handle your career and crew throughout the war.

Before you do anything make sure you read carefully the Readme files and the FAQ as they answer almost every question you might have. If you still have problems just post them in SubSim and we'll be happy to help in any way we can.

make sure your stock SH3 is patched with version 1.4b
and enjoy GW a bit an when the day is finally there reinstall SH3 with the patch 1.4b and get GWX (Grey Wolves Expansion), as a Beta tester I can tell you , it will blow you eyeballs out of ur sockets :o

No worries. There are two versions of SH3. One american and a european. You have to patch it with the appropriate version you have (i.e european or american patch). Go to the official web site and download the appropriate patch.

Yes do that. If the version is 1.3 you're OK (it's really 1.4 but it's a bug in the SH3)

BTW I like the new avatad HunterICX :D :D

I'm sorry mate. I can't understand what's wrong with it. I would suggest you try contacting Ubisoft support. Clearly something is wrong with your instalation. If you can install it again try it (I mean totally clear install-delete EVERYTHING) and if it doesn't work seek help from Ubisoft. I can't think of anything else.

Sorry mate. GW needs SH to be patched to v1.4. Try to contact Ubisoft. They should know what is wrong with your installation, they should be able to help you. I'm really sorry about that but I cannot think of anything else.

I had the same problem when I had to re-install SHIII with GW after re-formatting a HDD. You have to make sure all the prts of SHIII are removed, that includes the game file in 'my documents' and the SHII folder in whichever HDD you have it on. After that all went well with patching. Might be worth using any registry cleaning software you might have as well.

I am also new here,, had the same problem.
My issue turned out to be that I had made the Type 21 modification.
If you have made any mods, or saved any games, do a reinstall. the saved game will still be there,, but the mods will be over wrote, and then it will take.

Hope that helps a little

When doing a total re-install it is always wise to delete the SH3 file in your 'MyDocuments' folder as well :D

I did not install TGW1.1a using JSGME. I opened a new Silent Hunter III and installed TGw1.1a in the main directory. It seems to work okay.

Why is it necessary to install TGW1.1a using the JSGME?

It isn't necessary. It's just for convinience. If you don't like GW or any other mod you can just take it off using JSGME and you have the previous version of SH.

Are you using a No-CD crack??? (cause you have missionEngine.dll unknown ver)
Or you downloaded the wrong ver of patch??? [cause there are 4 ver of patches, North America Download /DVD and EMEA Download / DVD]

If you used No-CD crack, you must remove it (i.e. copy original game file back to install dir) to let the patch work (sure, you need another No-CD crack after installation but it's out of scoop of this topic)

If you used the wrong ver of patch, just download another one for it to work

P.S. Actually, if your patch tells you that a txt file has a wrong ver, go to install dir (default = C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII), find that file out and rename it. This could solve the problem (at least for me)

i snook into a harbour for the first time ever t'other day. I found 2 cargo ships at various docks. every time i shot at one, the torpedoe would just pass through it and hit the dock... I definetly had the right draft setting.
