Just like my keel shots in GW :D :D :D :D
Cool video thanks
Cool! It just fell apart, like it was made of plastic! Excellent video, mate!
I have seen that before, but that is really amazing, how the destroyer almost jumps out of the water.
I was lucky enough to see this live! Big bang! Big Splash! Mmmmm! dead DD!:yep:

How do I download that video?
 BOOM!
What were you doing there Tarjak?
Before anyone picks me up on that the ship was actually formerly HMAS Torrens, a River Class Destroyer Escort in the RAN.
The River Class DE's were a variant of the Leander class Frigate which were reclassified in the 1960's from ASW Frigate to DE.
Still it made a nice boom when she got thumped by theat keel shot! She was sunk by a Mk48 ADCAP (Advanced Capability) torpedo with a convential warhead fired from over the horizon.
The first explosion is from the pressure wave from the explosion and the 2nd blast is the actual explosion itself travelling slightly behind the pressure wave. The keel as you can see gets badly bent out of shape by the first and then snapped by the 2nd.
Very nice, does anyone know the extension of this type of file?:D
Edit: Got it, it's an flv file, downloaded a player (freeware) & plays good!

I love the commentary voice
especialy when he talks about ''But there where no casualties, because the ship was empty'' :rotfl:
Of course it was empty!:rotfl: It was a live range test of the HMAS Farncomb's weapon systems. The Torrens had been decommissioned and was in mothballs for about 12 months before getting sunk. The RAN does have a history of sinking it's own and it's Allies (HMAS Melbourne, twice cut destroyers in half, but that's another couple of stories), but it doesn;t tend to use human targets in live firing excersises.
Another trivia bit is that doctored footage of this sinking was used in the movie Pearl Harbour!
I know what you mean HunterICX, a little TOO "Corn Ball" if you ask me!!:rotfl:
Gotta say that was pretty damn interesting to look at

No offense but the ship looks like a model, too light and it floats kindaa strangly when she is blow up. I'm no expert so there is a great chance that I'm wrong.

None taken. The ship and the sinking however were real, I know I was there. Check the Wikipedia entries on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMAS_Torrens_(DE-53 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMAS_Torrens_%28DE-53)) She was as light as we could make here as everything usable and some stuf that wasn't have been removed plus hundres of huge holes drilled through internal bulkheads to help her sink. Funny then that the bows stayed up for about 15 mins before dropping pretty quickly to the bottom.
She is now an artificial reef to attract sea life and you can dive on the wreck now if you want.
What battleship ? lol
It certainly wasn't a battleship. See my eariler posts.
What sub type is the Francomb ?
The HMAS Farncomb is a Collins Class Submarine currently in the Royal Australian Navy. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMAS_Farncomb and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collins_class_submarine

Thanks TarJak
Must admit to supressing a wry grin at this part of the wikipedia text " In a 2003 joint naval exercise, three Collins-class submarines reportedly "sank" two American Los Angeles class (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles_class_submarine) attack submarines and a US aircraft carrier, supporting the claims of defect resolution and combat effectiveness.[2] (http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/09/23/1064082993693.html)" :D

Brit submarines sank a seawolf in an exercise two years ago, the german 212's have to have noise makers on thier sterns just so the other forces have something too do.

Now that's what I like to hear Kapitan
Music to the old ears :D
Plenty of grins the the fellas involved in the "sinkings". I did see footage from the periscope camera of the keel of the CV:oops: from about 30m below it.
The opex was somewhere in the pacific near Hawaii from what I've been told. Dunno any other details about the "sinkings" though. As to whether the problems with the Collins' are sorted or not, I can;t really comment other than the guys involved are doing their best to get them all sorted as fast as they can. Government bureacracy notwithstanding!:damn:
