JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel is using nanotechnology to try to create a robot no bigger than a hornet that would be able to chase, photograph and kill its targets, an Israeli newspaper reported on Friday....

Very interesting, I can't wait and see in about three years. Also that bionic glove seems interesting too, imagine face to face being able to bend the enemies rifle just before he/she tries to fire...LOL

I can see the sales of fly swats increasing in the areas surounding and occupied by Israel!

I sure some one is now working on a "Fly Spray" as we speak.

I wonder if they will have a "stinger", so they could inject a sedative or posion into to a target?

I was watching some military future weps show and I saw an idea they had to create many many small helicopter or plane type drones that could be deployed over a large area using solar and or battery's and stay aloft indefinatly to provide a blanket of surveliane in an area using cameras/sensors...thought that was a cool idea for the remote mountain regions where you are trying to spot peeps hiding out...good ideas.

I was wondering why lately the honey I add to my tea had silicon chip shavings in it. :hmm:

If it had problems with its software, would it be referred to as "computer bugs"?

I suppose so........but could you imagine trying to run a deconfig on that thing? I mean, where in the world would you plug in the USB cable or port interface? <-----(brief humor)

That is one cool weapon they inventing!:yep:

Only problem is what will happen when it gets in the wrong hands?

We are very clever dreaming up new ways to kill each other.

What if it stung a U.N. "bystander," could they take the case to British courts and sue?:-?

Is this not that little super hero Fearless Fly (http://www.toonopedia.com/fearless.htm)? So long as his super power spectacles don't fall off he is invincible. As the opening credits from the cartoon said, "no fly-swatter can harm him, no fly paper can hold him, no insecticide can stop him!" This might bring back some memories for old timers here. :D

This kind of weapon would be perfect to fight the war of drugs. Just release a billion of these insects from a plane and they will chop down any cocaine or opium field in minutes.

Then once they were finished we'd have to deal with a hundred million unemployed and coke-addicted bugs.

If it works it's the advent of the "smart bullet" and could mean a huge change in warfare.

The smart bullet is already being designed for the Future Warrior concept. It will have 4x 15mm launchers of heat seeking smart munitions (fired from a metal storm type launcher) surrouding a 4.6 mm PDW for close in defense. You can run, dodge and generally hide, but the munitions will get you anyway. Should be fielded between 2020 to 2025.

Not quite the same thing. The difference between that and these drone things is while the heat seeker bullet will detonate when it gets close to its target it still has to continue to move along or drop to the ground. With a nano drone you could completely button up and it will hover and wait until you come out then get you.

Being guided it could also fly down a pipe or through a crack in the wall. A lot more effective imo.

You assume the smart munition has no rocket power (which is does). Of course, the slow bee like thing will do the job for an extended period of time, but the Mach 2 smart munition is what I would rather have in a fight - you are dead now! This is assuming I had the FW's protective gear as well that made me immune to the bee. The FW's suit is made of of a nano army itself and has the ability to inject everything from pain killers to blood clotting drugs, set broken bones with an instant cast on demand, and give the user almost superhuman strength. Its pretty amazing what is coming down the pike.

I'm not discounting rocket powered smart rounds completely but like any rocket its flight time and maneverabiltiy would be severely limited therefore limiting its usefullness in certain situations.

Personally i'd rather have both weapon technolgies. Something able to fly around a corner or into an entrenchment at blinding speed and something that could sit and wait like a mobile intelligent mini mine for its victim to emerge (or unzip that fancy suit, say to take a dump) or crawl through pipe, crack or duct into an enemy strongpoint and send back intel like the proverbial fly on the wall before being directed to strike the right target with pinpoint accuracy at the optimal moment.

Freaky stuff man. Makes me feel old to remember a time when bombs and bullets were just hunks of dumb metal tossed in large numbers with the hope of hitting something a small percentage of the time.
