I've noticed that there are tons and tons o' speech files, but doggone if I've heard a tenth of them during play. What gives?

I believe a lot of them are related to aspects of the game that didn't make it into the final cut, much like some of the stuff in the manual.

Oh, SH3.... you're great but you coulda been so much BETTER!

--sighs--

I realize SH4 isn't even out, but I sure do wish they'd consider SH5 as SHIII as it 'could'a-should'a' been, and with the improved graphics that are now (and would be then) available.

It sounds like there not rushing SHIV as much as SHIII, do we stand a good chance of getting everything they said we would, with a chance of a little extra.

Let's hope SHV will show what SHIII should have been!!

What kind of phrases are there that we don't hear?

By the sound of a few they were planning to make SH3 VERY Sim-like. Like being able to control dive plane angle or to "sweep" to a bearing is very real world.

If you're at all curious, go to C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\data\Sound\Speech_En (assuming a standard default setup with C as your drive). Within that folder are 9 more, all of speech sound files. It's mindboggling what is there, and double mindboggling picturing the potentials of all that.

The 9 folders contains same phrases, with different voices so to give player a variety.

I think the normal dive, dive in shallow etc. sounds are there. Not sure, but when I order a dive (by pressing 'D') in shallow water, I get the report that the water is shallow.

Crazy. Makes you wonder also what mods coulda done with a development kit. Couldn't have been too hard to add a few things had we the right tools.

the 9 folders contain 9 different voices
in 1 folder you have different voice behaviour : Panic, Normal, Whisper(silent rig)

its pitty not all the files work like they should have done.
btw which file contains the script that the sound correspond to?
like ''Bearing 00'' 3 differents sound play ''sound file ''Bearing'' , sound file ''0'' x2

I saw weather report there too, shame that wasnt put in, more use of the radio would have been great.

Is there a way to bind sound files to certain actions? For example, GW has the great "radio message received" and WAC has a clicking sound when a ship is detected in the uzo.

Save SHV for an all-new version. I vote they rework the entire thing, get it right and release it as SH3.5: Kaluen's Edition.

There's also a sound file titled something like "We should pull up right next to the supply boat, captain".

And on the subject of sending reports, the manual mentions two radio orders that've not made it in: Request new orders and Request escort to base.

Oh well, nothing to do but hoping they're allowed to finish the sequel. It's looking good so far.
