In my last patrol . I had 5 torpedeos . I had been tracking a convoy and linning myself for a shot . I got the shot off only too see the torp prematurely explode in my estimate a few yards from the target . that left me with 4 . I than took anothe r shot and bingo .. Inpact . But the damm medium cargo ship was still moving and on fire . so I noticed a large tanker . I took a shot and it hit sqaurely at AOB 90 .. Bang . But the damm thing was still moving at 6 knts . that left me with 3 . so I lingned up on the meduim cargo set my peramitters and than launched the torpedo . It Blew up again prematurlly missing it again a few yards . so I looked to see I f I had set it for impact , and it was , I decided to take a another shot again the same result . ,
Now I have 2 left , I checked my settings , Lanunched the 2and and again the same result .. So I decided to leave that alone and concetrate On the tanker , The AOB was 135 . , My last torpedo . was launched , It hit the tanker only to bounce of of it .. Fustrating !!!! No torpedoes and a Rough sea . And I cannot man the deck gun . Luckly the tanker sunk , But I decided to ram the convoy ship . I did And no result . I have rammed small costal vessel and knocked them right over , I made the point to ram the cargo ship right were the torpedo hit and stuck my bow right into the hole . Nothing happen . OMG what A sim !!
So to you more expereanced kaleuns . Does this ever work ? . I have read the wiki on this subject . It seems that It can , what do you have to say ? :damn:

Well for starters NO it should not work...
First off your uboat is not meant or built to be a ramming device..you would seriously damage the hull and even the pressure hull making it impossible to submerge not to mention possible damage to your one main weapon..the torpedo tubes.Hence you would be a sitting duck with no means to defend or get away. Not to mention the very good chance of destroying your boat outright in the futile attempt.
Secone the ramming being done in this game and working is only being done by kiddies exploiting a serious game engine flaw that deals hardly any damage to your Uboat when you do ram anything.

I also think that you don't get renown if you sink a ship by ramming :D :D :D
U-Boats are not Triemes, they are supposed to run silent and fire torpedoes. In the book Iron Coffins the German HQ gave an order to U-Boats to try to stop the Allied Invasion in Europe (4/6/1944) by ramming the barges after having run out of torpedoes. All of the U-Boat commanders thought it as a ludicrous order as it was ordering them to commit suicide.

Yes they thought it ludicrous however all of them sailed on the mission. Was it 12? Only to be destroyed in the Brest harbor by the waiting RAF and Royal Navy torp boats and destroyers. By a strange twist of fate (that happens over and over to him) Werner was hit, damaged and managed to return to port along with one other boat. 10 were lost, 2 limped back to port, none made it to the channel for the kamikaze attack.
I think the German Navy was upset with him for printing that! But I do believe it to have happened.
What is 12 boats going to do against hundreds/thousands? It would have been a senseless sacrifice. They can take out what 20 at the most?

Yes Werner was VERY lucky in so many ways. The fact that they were prepare to go and kill themselves and their crews tells a lot about the level of dedication, professionalism and odd sense of duty towards Germany.

Hi, I'd like to point out that a Torpedo can bounce off the hull of a Merchant/Tanker if the target is too close .. if you fire off when you are less than 400 metres to the target then this can and usually does occur

I read a post stating this happened to them and I thought it neat. I got off 2 torps in a hurricane recently from about 1000m at a large cargo, one hit and apparently did nothing to it, the other was a dud. I lost him in the storm, surfaced and nearly ran into his rear in the storm! I was dead behind him and he had not seen me! I dropped back to about 400m and got off a shot as I had never fired upon a merchant at this angle. The fish actually struck the prop and got knocked outwards at about 45 degrees from the ship! Initially I was upset but then just as fast the fish turned came about and caught the merchant in the left front quarter sinking her! It was amazing. And as the other poster stated, thanks to the event camera or I would have just thought it a normal strike!
