I red somewhere that battleships were assigned as escorts to convoys, (for example HMS Ramilles that Scharnhorst & Gneisenau sighted)... however I've never seen that in the game. (Havent seen anything bigger than a CL guarding a convoy..)

So... running GW 1.1, is there any chance I'll find a battleship in the middle of a convoy?

The only Warship I saw in a convoy was a Cruiser (Auxiliary or Dido) :shifty:

The only time I ever saw a battleship in a convoy was when I saw the Malaya in one in the North Atlantic in Aces of the Deep (the original game, not the SHIII mod pack). Sank her too, and got away.:smug: But that was a long, long time ago.:nope:

In stock SHIII, I can't remember ever seeing a warship larger than a destroyer in a convoy. But I haven't played that much lately...:hmm:

i don't think escorting convoys is what BBs were assigned to do... considering the volume of convoys heading to England and out of during the war.

yeah i think that was the orgiinal reason. In the beginning of the war there we're german surface raiders, and a BB or cruiser of some sort was a real good counter to that. Later in the war though, you probably shouldnt see any cruisers or BB's in a convoy because the surface raiders are all but gone.
