Hi There,
Can someone please tell me how to get external torpedo reloads into the boat so I can use them?
Thanks for any help.

You got to have crew in each of the torpedo rooms.
Hit the 'I' key to bring up the weapons dialog box.
Now simply click and drag the torpedoes from the external section to the inside section. Now you have to wait for the crew to load em up. This takes a while. If you put the curser over a torpedo that is loading it will give you a time to load.
I usually load these while I am at 64x speed.

One of the Type IXs, the D2 I think, has something like twelve torpedoes in the forward external store
Why?!?!?!? I hate external stores because they force you to surface in order to reload and hope the weather holds. In my type VII I have about a 50/50 chance of getting them under; half the time by the time I use a torpedo the weather turns bad, or I need one in a situation where I can't surface.
Even in the best of circumstances, getting 1 external in takes about an hour. With enemy ships around, that can feel like an eternity.

remember to turn off silent running. i do it when theres heavy perciptation and in deep seas.
they're external cuz there's no room left in the boat?

Hi dont forget to fully man the appropriate torpedo room and to drag the torpedo into the internal stores, not a torpedo tube.

I'm guessing so.
I'm crossing my fingers; I've seen the weather go from good to bad, but never the other way around.
One other thing to remember, If your crew is loading empty tubes, they will not reload external torpedos until they are finished.

strange a couple of times my crew couldn't man the deck guns because of weather but at the same time i was able them to load the external???? seems that manning a deck gun would be easier than trying to man handle an external fish

good point, but you can also tweak the deck gun to work in worser weather. do a forum search... however the deck gun is removed later on in the war when the merchants become armed... i think 41 or 42 but don't quote me.

Why? Because that's the way it actually was. They only had room for a certain amount inside, and anything extra was a plus. It's either that or not have them at all.
That's one of the things I like about the US fleet boats: they carried 24 torpedoes, just like the type IX. The difference was they had six tubes forward, four aft and all the torpedoes were inside where they belonged.

In the weapons dialog box, switch off the auto load. This will make the crew transfer the torpedos without loading the tubes after each one. Man the torpedo rooms with enough crew, the greater the efficiency (green line above the compartment), the faster it will load.
Just rememeber to switch the auto load on again once you have transfered torpedos, otherwise you will be fireing blanks at the enemy.!!:o:rotfl:

To expand on that point: In a fully loaded U-boat, two of the internal reloads were actually stored in the bunks in the crew quarters. Crewmen were happy to expend those first two eels, because that meant a whole heck of a lot more living space and no more sharing a bunk with 600 lbs of Torpex explosive!

That must be were Bernard's quarters are, hence my crew's relief when they been used as Bernard doesn't play with them any more!:rotfl:
This has always bothered me. How di they actually move the topedoes from outside to inside the sub? I meen not through the conning tower i guess. And where do they store the external topedoes? Under the metal plating near the deck gun or so? Does anyone have any info about the real life information about external topedoes?

They used sort of a ramp where the torpedo glided into the torpedo room from the top of the ceiling. They were stored in an external compartment under deck, which could be opened manually.

That's awesome! Thanks Taurondin! I always wondered what the purpose of those "rope" lines on the submarine were.
