Well today was the first day of deer hunting with firearms here in Michigan. I'm in the shotgum only only zone but with slugs it ain't so bad. I didn't get anything, only saw 8 deer all day, only one being a buck, a nice 4 point, to bad he was out of range. Oh well, still got 14 more days of fun regardless if I get one or not.

Just dont:

-Fall asleep (you'll miss the deer)
-Walk around with your finger on the trigger
-Think somethings a deer and then shoot it
-Haul your shotgun up to the treestand with some rope while the shotgun is loaded

And last but not least: Be sure of where on the deer you're aiming at. Digestive juices do not mix well with meat before human consumption.

Other than that: Have fun and bag some meat for the winter.

:p

BTW, deer hunting isn't fun (it sucks), But it's needed to have meat to eat.

Deer hunting IS fun!! You get to mingle with nature and then kill a creature and eat it. :yep:

Ya just gotta remember that some deer are a little trickier than others.

And always get a good nights sleep before the hunt!

  However, I hazard to guess that the deer doesn't get the last laugh come end of deer hunting season. ;)

Actually well over half of the deer taken in a season are taken on opening day. After that they retreat to swamps and thickets and tend to move only at night.

Like an old hunter once told me. "Remember, this is a critter which has nothing better to do all day than survive".

True, if you're hunting an area not frequented by 4WD trucks, ATVs, or Snowmobiles throughout the year. Used to be you had to have a fair amount of skill, luck, patience and a good aim to bag a deer. But in some areas deer being so used to the noise of progress they just continue feeding and walking around like nothing new happening with that, well you know, deer in the headlight look waiting to get shot.

I saw a vid somewhere where (a REALLY BAD SHOT) hunter fired at a deer standing in the middle of the road.......he missed obo. 4 times before he nicked him and he was in the next county after that.
