Okay, I can't find this guy. I'm on my first real mission, tracking my first real contact, and I can't find him. One minute he's here, the next minute he's there. I've been following him for hours and haven't caught site of him once. I only know roughly where he is by submerging and listening to the sonar.

You see, the trouble is that it's dark and raining, so the visibility must be really low. I guess I can just follow him until it stops raining. Or I run out of gas. But I thought I might see if you guys had any brilliant ideas.

By the way, check out my navigator's weather report. Pay careful attention to the part about percipitation.

If i where you, i wouldn't waist to much time on chasing a single ship in bad weather. Don't expect the weather to get better within a couple of houres. It sometimes takes days. If i where you i would head on and go to another place en hunt for another target.

PS: Even if you find the target it's hard to sink it in this kind of weather.

I'd like to know whether the weather report is a common bug in SH? My weather prophet always tells me it's not raining, though I'm thoroughly wet from head to toe... :nope:

I notice you don't have an officer on the bridge. Are you using GW? If so then I don't understand how you are getting weather reports without the officer up there.

You quoted the wrong guy. I did have an wachoffizier on the bridge. Akela, who has started this threat, hasn't got one. But nonetheless the reports are wrong.

I had the expereance of bad weather and at nite . I was tracking a convoy and did not relize that I was headed straight for them . I dived than surfaced and when I surfaced a minute later a A big bow right in front of me about 30yds comming straight for me . I turned to stbd and watched that damm thing cross my stern , didnt have the soulution ready so I took a shot and I guess I was to close the damm torpedo was a dud , or didnt arm in time . Than a freakinking corvette showd up and I had to dive quickley . and Iwas enaged trying too get away . that lasted for 2 hours . the convoy left without a trace . WOW !! bad weather is quite fustrating !!

When raining with heavy fog as it says in your weather report, visibility will be down to about 300 meters. What you want to do in this situation is get a fix on his bearing and heading with your sound gear. Plot it on your map then surface and run at full speed along that plotted course. You may have to submerge to take new readings to refine your plot. Keep this up till you get visual. Run right up along side him then turn 90 deg away and bring your stern tube to bear then fire off a fish. It doesnt matter that he sees you too as he wont be able to manuver enough at that close range. Bear in mind that if this is an armed merchant or a destroyer you will get your ass handed to you. :know:

Oh, one other thing. If he is moving so fast that you cant catch him at full speed then its probably a warship.

BTW. I knew an Akela playing Shadowbane with the Defenders of Order and The Fringe. You wouldnt be the same would you?

Give up. You're going to have a hell of a time trying to attack it. Probably not worth it, and when/if you actually do catch sight of it and find out it's nothing but a lowly tramp steamer/coastal merchant, you'll say to yourself "darn it, Mookie was right" :know:
