I was going through a bunch of stuff from my days in the Navy and ran across this picture of my old boat, surfaced through the ice. This is the USS Grayling, SSN 646. She has since been decommissioned. She was a Sturgeon (637) Class sub.

Sorry for the "off topic" post, but I thought someone might find it interesting.

BTW, in the picture, the rudder is to the left, and the "sail" is to the right. Notice the fairwater planes are in the vertical position. The black spot between rudder and sail is a seawater discharge.

I'll have to see if I can get a scan in of the picture of my dad up at the North Pole aboard the USS Skate in the late 60's/early 70's. It's a great shot of the ship surrounded by ice.
