The radio

Just started playing SH3 and I got a few questions about the radio. I´m started to play the career and i´m on my 4 th patrol, dec -39.
1) How do u radio for new orders when u have patroled ur area for 24 hours?
2) Why dont u hear any transmissions from other u-boats in the fleet,a bug or?
3) How do u radio for assistance, like a tug or something, to tow u into base? Entering Willhelmshaven manually is fun but i guess its gonna get kinda boring in the long run.

Btw, is there a mod or something so u can use the grammophone without the music option on. I kinda like it quiet in the boat.

Hi,
In regards to 3) .. if the novelty wears off for you to return right to the Quayside, you can finish the Patrol when you get within 25km of your destination Port.
[The downside to that is you'll miss the Band and those luscious Ladies throwing flowers at you on your return !]

Thanks guys for ur replies. Kinda dissapointed tho but the game is great so its no biggie. I used to play the old "Aces of the deep". Kinda cool to hear other boats report convoy contacts, BDU asking boats to report and as the war goes on they dont. :) Ty for the 25 km from base tip. I´ll keep it in mind.

i have the music option off. all i hear is the scratching noise when i activate the grammophone. i dont wanna exit the career mode just to play a record. so if theres a mod for this. lemme know

A quick return to base = 'Esc' then 'end patrol' :D

You can end the Patrol by clicking 'ESC' but you will collect more Renown points by returning to Base :up:

I have found that using the NGym That at in the last patrol I kept sending Contact reports and Lo and behold after 3 days of tracking the convoy . It seemed that 2 DD and the one corvette that gave me grief ended up sunk !! . Wow The guys in Dev team did thier homework . Historically as I found out , U-baots were not allowed to attack right away . Until other , U-boats arrived . and this seem to be true . Comunications with the BDU , always seems to get a response too, "To keep Up The good Work" . as far communicating with other boats , that dosnt happen . Also I listen to the gram phone but with music that is installed for the era . alot better than not having none . when I do Engage .. Off with the music . Try some of the stuff under Newbies Links and stuff . I have learned alot from reading and asking vet captains questions ..

If you want gramaphone music you need to put it there yourself; the file is empty. Songs can be downloaded from http://u-boot.realsimulation.com/
Just follow the links to Content/Download Central/SH3 Downloads/SH3 Gramaphone Downloads. You'll find plenty of good period tunes there.

I think problem 1 was supposed to be in the game, but never got put in. Grey Wolves solves problem 2 (all according to historically correct dates and taken from Donitz's war diary) and 3 (wait around long enough outside the port and a escort ship will come out to meet you) and it also takes off the standard background music and installs a whole mess of period correct gramophone tracks. I highly recommend it.
