This is a probably a dumb question, it is definiatly a noobie question...

I just started the campaign mode in 1939. I am approaching England, as it is on the way to my patrol zone. The question is this - who are my enemies? that is, how do I know which nations are nuetral, friendly, or hostile?

[heh-heh]... You must be coming up my wake... *I* got a few radio messages, telling me *who* to look out for... Haven't you ???

Match the flags on ships you are about to attack with reports that are coming in through your radio. That's not a dumb question, by the way... All of us get tripped up by the simplest things at one time or another.

F1 Key (in most mods) will list the countries and dates of their allegiance.

Are you running the stock game or a modded version? If its stock, after sept 3rd (i think) the fun starts. British ships become targets. They will show up as red contacts on the map. Green contacts are neutral. Dont attack any neutral ships. As more and more time goes on more countris go to war with germany. You will get a radio report telling you what countries are at war with you. Ive been up for a long long time now so ill have to read this tomorrow to make sure what I wrote is correct. ;)

Not a dumb question at all. Depending upon the mod you use you may even have radio messages telling you to not attack French shipping or adhere to the prize rules. Quite silly. A single rifle could penetrate your pressure hull. Be aggressive, use help to determine combatants, and if all else fails protect your men and sink anything that looks funny.

What happened was this...
The first time, I must have been running too deep, the first message I got said (Paraphrased) to avoid shooting passenger liners, but to use the previous rules of engagement. However, not having got the message that gave said rules of engagement, I was understandably confused
I found this link: http://www.communitymanuals.com/shiii/index.php?title=Nationality_Status_Timeline
and noticed the colors.

Hmmm... :hmm: I thought to myself, I've seen cities with there names in those colors....

So I started a new campaign and almost immediately got the messages I missed the first time!
So then I started looking around, and noticed that America's cities were all Green (Neutral) Britain’s cities were green, but turned red (Hostile) and Germany's cities were Blue! (Friendly) Mystery solved!

P.S. I'm running Grey Wolves 1.1 upon PC Gamer's reccomendation... Great Mod!

I just sunk my first ship! Yay!

I celebrated by surfacing and blaring Bag-Pipe music over the speakers while I watched the Large Cargo ship Burn and Sink! :arrgh!:

GW rocks. It makes stock seem a waste of time. Enjoy the lone merchants while you can. Next you will be asking "how do i sink that aux. cruiser in the middle of the convoy", and next "do i ever get a decent shot at that Nelson in the Task Force, they move so fast".;)

Anything under armed escort even if it's neutral sink it.You will get a message sooner or later something like this :-Tankers are assets to the enemy and as such should be considered as contriband. (or words to that effect)(GW)Now in the early years there are a few british tankers but there's also a lot of Us Tankers around.me personnally will sink any tanker be it brit or US.but saying that I have editted my basic.cfg so I don't get penilised for sinking Neutrals.
