On November 8, one of Hollywood's most talented, (and probably most underappreciated) composesers died of cancer. He produced many memorable soundtracks (Filmography (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0006231/)), such as the Hunt for Red October and Conan the Barbarian. In tribute, I am playing an .mp3 of the Red October opening theme, one of my favorite of his works.

I was just thinking about him, I believe Tuesday night. I couldn't remember if he was alive or not, and concluded that he had probably died sometime in the past and I just never heard about it. I thought about giving it a google to find out. Which reminds me, I need to get myself a dedicated voice recorder.

I listen to his music when I run. The two Conan movies and Red October are absolutely incredible. Basil is in my top 5 list, alongside John Williams, Danny Elfman, and Jermey Soule.


He'll be missed.

I guess i'm the only one that has/likes his Robocop soundtrack. How unfortunte he's moved on.

Shame, will have to run the old conan soundtrack onto my HD again, for old times sake as it were.
At least he will leave his music behind for others to enjoy long after he's gone, which is probably more than most of us can say.

The song sun in russian at the begining of the hunt for red october.Does anyone know if it is a real song or a Basil Poledouris composition?And whats it about?

The song that was sug at the begining of the film was composed for the film. It's entitled "Ode to the Red October" I sill love the Russian National Anthem sung as they engage the silent drive!!:up:

I loved the Conan theme, especially the one from Conan The Destroyer. Really gets your blood pumping.
