A new one? that would be more expensive..because you first need to spend a lot of $$$ to get her in your house...and after that you have to keep them happy.
if she is saying ''Why should we spend 3 grand on a computer that you just play games on?" Reply with the following '' Dont get me started on all the shoes, clothes and handbags you bought that you just wear on a special day!!!!''

Before it starts: I'm not trying to start a flame fest!!! :o
But I don't get the hoopla over Intel's dual-core, except the hype. Traditionally, AMD has been preferred for gamers and are usually cheaper and better (according to most benchmarks when gaming is the purpose). If I was to go out and buy a dual-core box I would definitely go with AMD. But to each his / her own!
AMD 64 3000+
2 gig Kingston ram
nVidia 6800 GT
Maxtor 60 gig SATA
WD 80 gig IDE

Yes, AMD has been the leading brand for quite some while, but the Core 2 Duos smash AMD in all the reviews I`ve seen.
Yea, I prefer AMD also. But it is pretty much up to the user, which one he likes. Same´s with the graphics cards. Some like GF, some like ATI.
But if someone would give me a Intel quad core for free, I would take it! F*ck the AMD in that case! :rotfl:

Reached patrol grid, sunk a british Costal Merchant.
24 hours is passed, got myself an idea, decided to attack british port on the eastern side of England (forgot the name)
Portraid: Got inside, sunk a C3 cargo, damaged a tanker (Having a IIA).
Question: could someone be kind enough to give me a link to where I can download Harbor traffic mod please?????Would be very kind of you!

I did some research on the Amd vs Intel chip. I am a long time Amd user and have had real good luck with there chips. The give away for me was reviews of Amd duel core that beat the Intel chips. However, they ran them against the p4 chips not against the intel duos.
The intel chips used less power, as well. So a cooler running system over all.
Both the 2.4Hz chips were pretty much the same price. sooooo.....(see previos post)
As far as I can tell they are BOTH great chips so it was a close call.
no flame job intended.

Latest reviews show the Conroe duos beating AMD hands down.
Kind of disappointing as I bought a FX-62 dual core based system in September.....I'd probably go for the top Conroe now,
Having said that, however, have to accept that pretty much as soon as you buy something, there's something better available. It's not as though my system is poor!!
Athlon FX-62 dual core with 2Gb on board cache (2 x 1Gb)
WD Raptor 74Gb HD @ 10,000rpm
2Gb DDR2 @ 667 (2 x 1Gb)
Ati RADEON X 1950 XTX, 512Mb GDDR4
Samsung 204B 20.1" LCD, 1600 x 1200, 5ms.

Hate to be a downer but you upgraded at the worst possible time Biggles. Nvidia just released their DX10 card, the 8800 GTX and Windows Vista is right around the corner, bringing with it DX10. Being that SHIV is coming out next spring, it will probably have some kind of DX10 update, after or even when it's released. You should have waited one or two more months...

You know, CPU´s don´t make any sound, it´s the CPU-fan that does... :D ;) I´ve heard loud AMD-based PC´s and loud Intel-based PC´s. Get a decent cooling solution and you won´t hardly hear anything.

Yes, AMD has been the leading brand for quite some while, but the Core 2 Duos smash AMD in all the reviews I`ve seen.
Smash? I don't think so. If you go through the CPU benchmarks at Tom's Hardware Guide the E6600 and the FX-62 are very close in performance, as are the E6400 and the X2 5000. It's true the E6700 and E6800 are faster still, so right now if you absolutely must have the top of the line and you've got money to burn then you'd buy Intel, but suggesting that all Conroes per se outperform AMD is simply not true.
Where Intel has the real advantage at the moment is that for the first time in several years they're offering a better price/performance ratio than AMD. IOW, the E6400 might perform on a par with the X2 5000 but it's cheaper, and so on. In my opinion, AMD made a mistake with their pricing strategy when AM2 was released. Whether they persist with this in the hope that the K8L-based second generation AM2s will get them back in the hunt remains to be seen.

Hi Biggles: I have been running the above system for awhile now and am very pleased. I think we have just about the same setup. one of my concers was heat from the CPU and video card. However, its running nice and cool.
Anyone think of upgrading, its worth the money (IMHO). It really kicks butt compared to my old one. Only thing left to do is get a SATA HD and I should be good for years.

I've always heard that AMD was better for gaming, something about temperature and price. Maybe things are changing now.
And btw you don't need to spend a ton of money to play the latest games, I basicaly build up my system piece by piece for cheap, I also bought a few used parts too (sound blaster card for 10$).
I guess the most exensive things are the vid card and memory.

From what I understand, Intel's equivalent high end dual-cores (the low-end Intels are merely two processors sandwiched together and have heat problems) are currently cheaper than AMD, which is unusual in the processor competition. But don't expect AMD to sit on their laurels, they'll most likely make a push to rule the gamer market again.
Even with the price disparity, I'd still go with AMD when buying a new system.
