Hi,

Being a nubie I am at this site constantly trying to learn all I can from the other Captains. Everyone is very up on SH III and provide great info. I like their screen shots and tried it with the regular Win Print Screen. This was a pain in my rear patio so I searched the web for a cheap, like free screen saver. Free because I am not a full Captain yet and low paid. http://www.sw4you.de/ It's a neat little program. It captures immediatly and prints. The only problem (minor) is that you go to your start screen with the SH III icon in the tray. Tap on it and your back to sinking ships at the point you lost the screen. Maybe this thread will get better info on capture from the real Captains.

I just use the CTRL F11 way of taking a screenshot then if i feel like it i play around with it i use a programe called PhotoFilter which you can get free online. This works for me as i cant afford Photoshop.

Go to MY Computer, open your hard drive for your programs folder. Find the Ubisoft folder and inside is the SH3 folder. Open and at the bottom are the picks.

Ah yes, life is good. I use Picture it 9 for adjusting colors and such. They make some nice desktop pics. When you get the hang of it, go get Photobucket and you can show us what you have saved. Post them on the unoffical offical screenshot thread. It is always at the top.:up:

The folder is found in your programs folder on your hard drive. Open up the folder that contains all of the programs on your hard drive. Look for Ubisoft folder. Open and inside is SH3 folder. Open and you will see all kinds of icons to play the game. at the very bottom you will see a bunch of files looking all the same. Just double click and one of your BMP/JPEG programs will open it. or you can right click and highlight "open with" then choose your program. Like Microsoft paint or like me Picture it 9. Once you got that down pat, start messing with colors and contrast. You will find you can make some nice screenies and desktop pictures of your patrols.

I use a program called Sreenhunter 4.1 pro
Puts the pics in a folder of your choice and as whatever type you want plus loads of other options

Hey Firewall the name of the file would be something Sh3pic3257 or something like that the files might look like some of the other files down the bottom of that folder. The trick is check the name. To open just double left click on the file.
Hope this help mate:up:
PS Your not a pain at all mate we all started out somewhere. You should have seen some of the questions i asked people when i first got the game Just ask BBW:yep: :up:

For some reason I get screenshots saved as .TGA images which transparent water. What format should they save as and does anyone know how you can change it?

TarJak do you use CTRL F11 to take screenshots?
im not sure what file type mine come out as i have not taken any in a few days as i have not got SH3 installed at the mo just waiting for the GWX beta. As soon as i find out what mine are i will let you know:up:
As for transparent water this is the first i have heard of this:hmm: :hmm:
What ever the file type the screenshots come out i use my photo programe photofilter to touch up the screens and to change them to Jpegs:up:

If I use the shift F11 key mine are .BMP. I change to JPEG. My question is this. Are you really looking at the screenshot file or some other file named .TGA?

The same applies for me as well. I use Shift-F11 and the files end up in the C\program Files\SH3 folder and they are named as SH3@<date>.bmp

I've never had a TGA file. Strange :hmm: :hmm:

God point AVGWarhawk and melnibonian:yep:
I can only think you are not looking in My computer/Ubisoft/SH3:hmm:
Look towards the bottom of this folder.

Thats why I question is the correct file being looked at for the screenshots....very odd that you are looking at TGA files and not BMP files:hmm:

I think by default the screenshots are stored in the C\Program Files\Ubisoft\SH3 isn't it?? Unless of course you changed something in the settings. It's really strange

If I use the shift F11 key mine are .BMP. I change to JPEG. My question is this. Are you really looking at the screenshot file or some other file named .TGA?

Definately the screenshots. I've taken several sequential shots and they all end up as .TGA's in the C\Program Files\Ubisoft\SH3 folder with the date as the name. This started after I loaded TGW and the HiRes fix prior to that it was .BMP in the same place. If anything I think it is the HiRes Fix that's done it. I've noticed this entry in the .ini file in the SH3 executable directory:

;
; DX9res Settings
; by Kegetys <kegetys@dnainternet.net>
;
; Note that this config is reloaded on device reset, so you can task switch out
; of the game, change settings from this file and then return
;

[config]
; ResX: Horizontal resolution setting
; ResY: Vertical resolution setting
; useFiltering: Use linear filtering for UI elements
; enableScreenshots: Hook printscreen keypress to save TGA screenshot
resX=1600
resY=1200
useFiltering=1
enableScreenshots=1
screenshotPath=c:\Documents and Settings\Grant\My Documents\SH3

[gamma]
; setGamma: Override gamma ramp
; gammaRed: Red channel gamma (1.0 = normal, decrease to add brightess, increase to darken)
; gammaGreen: Green channel gamma (1.0 = normal, decrease to add brightess, increase to darken)
; gammaBlue: Blue channel gamma (1.0 = normal, decrease to add brightess, increase to darken)
setGamma=0
gammaRed=1.0
gammaGreen=1.0
gammaBlue=1.0

I'm not sure but even if I disable this option take out the .dll files etc I still only get .TGA's with transparent textures.:damn:
