Hi all, Iīve got the following problem for weeks now using SH3 1.4 and GW:

In career mode, there will always be a crash to desktop after ca. 35 KM from port. Iīm sure the CTD depnds on distance from port, no matter if I save or not, if I time-accelerate or not etc. The error message is usually about "nddll" or something. Funny thing is, after reloading save-games and trying again and again I finally manage to "break through the invisible CTD barrier", but I havenīt found out yet why, so it seems like pure coincidence and good luck to me. Once Iīve crossed the "35KM border", SH3 runs smoothly, fine and stable, no problems whatsoever.

Can anyone confirm? Can anyone help? There must be a solution since I have always managed to actually CROSS the "CTD Border", but as I said, I havenīt found out yet why it works after several attempts.:hmm:

Before you kindly answer: Iīm NO nubie and I know about all the "usual" stuff like not saving near ports, not saving submerged (although this normally works on my system) etc. :know:

Cheers, AS

What kind of systemdo you have? Did you install the ocean floor mod with GW. Sometimes this will slow the game. Especially in port. Sounds like the ports are giving you issues. When well cleared of them, smooth sailing as it were. Just about everyone experience choppy play will navigating in or out of ports. Some more than other and then there is you with CTD until you are well clear. Turn down particle density in option within the game. Dump ocean floor texture if you loaded .

Thanks for your suggestions, but I donīt understand why the port traffic and textures should cause the problem as the game runs fine when IN or NEAR port and only crashes once I LEAVE the busy area - as I said, after ca. 35 Km distance thereīs ALWAYS a crash. I thought it might have to do with the harbour sound file (amb_harbour), so i cut it down to 10 seconds mono (=one channel), but this didnīt solve the problem.

My specs are: Pentium 4, 3.2 Ghz, GeForce 6600, 1024 MB, 5.2 Soundcard

SH3 runs smoothly even with all particles on, only in harbour it slows down a bit, but is well playable.

I used to have this problem in my vanilla game and sometimes in GW. It was never a CTD, but the game frozze. My guess is that that berrier represents the distance the port on modded and the rest of the game is modded (aka CPU computes how things run). MY computer always gets back on it feet, looks like your's doesn't even try.

Your specs are great and the game should run fine. Perhaps a fresh install? If you decide on the fresh install, make sure all the old files are gone. Even the one found in MY DOCUMENTS folder. Get rid of all orphans. See if this fresh install helps. It has helped a lot with other issues.

Thanx again, guys, but I wonīt do ANOTHER fresh install until GWX is out! Seriously, Iīve done lots of fresh installs recently, but the problem hasnīt been solved.:damn:

There must be a connection with the port area, something programm-wise that differs between "inside area" and "outside area". Well, if anyone else got this problem or - even better - a proper solution, please tell me.

....and how many posts does it take to get rid of that strange Samurai-Icon? Iīm suposed to be a U-Boat-captain, even though I havenīt been able to move farther than 35 km from home-port:rotfl:
