I'm stuck in the middle of the Atlantic because my diesels won't run. I know about the astern bug and tried that too. The strange thing is that when I dive the electric engines works as normal, but as soon as I surface the crew jumps into the diesel engine room but nothing happens. I got plenty of fuel. Why are my diesels on strike, any ideas?

Are your diesels engine room manned to a high enough level? Are you playing with any mods that might be causing problems??
Sorry I can't give you a tow, my sub is elsewhere. Did you pay for roadside assistance before you left??

No, a VII.
Well thanks bookworm, but i don't think anybody could explain that problem. Guess it's just my puter got a bad day. I'm sure (hope) the next patrol will run without problems.
Thta has never happened to me.

Could be sabotage if you are using SH3Commander.

Good question really. Every now and then I have trouble getting the diesels going. It's like you have to kick start the crew. Anyway. I just move in the very best guys. Plus I have two machinest in there all the time. I keep asking for full ahead and eventually they start to move their dead arses and the motors go. It is a strange bug. I'm in the VIIb. I would have kept toying with it until they went online and moved the boat.

Try this; for what ever reason it works for me at times: set the telegraph for flank, then emergency back, then forward speed again. I don't knw why, but for some reason going back and forth like that kick-starts the engines into working.

Yeah, it's weird. I get this occassonally. I always get them going but sometimes it takes some dinkering with the controls. Sometimes it just takes moving a crew member or two. I have not had them completely quit unless I run out of fuel:nope:

a reason why a Diesel engine wouldnt run
In place of a Diesel engine, Bernard installed a Gasoline engine (you can guess what happens if u put diesel fuel in it):smug:

I figured it out at the end, Bernard closed the engine oil valves, he meant the oil was too much of a mess. I ordered him on deck to start rowing. Luckily we met a nice british DD and captain who gave us a tow back to Wilhelmshaven.

Well, actually the cook was out of lard for cooking so Bernard recommended the oil he found outside just inside the saddle tanks. He forgot to turn off the valve after taking a cup or two. With that said, we are not only out of fuel, we have a long trail of oil leading the destroyers right to us:shifty: not to mention the entire crew is hurling up their lunch:roll:. Another fine mess Bernard has gotten us into......
