Quite possibly. The author claims its reality, but regardless if you beleive it or not, there are some important lessons to be learned from this read.

The Time Traveler appeared suddenly in my study on New Year’s Eve, 2004. He was a stolid, grizzled man in a gray tunic and looked to be in his late-sixties or older. He also appeared to be the veteran of wars or of some terrible accident since he had livid scars on his face and neck and hands, some even visible in his scalp beneath a fuzz of gray hair cropped short in a military cut. One eye was covered by a black eyepatch. Before I could finish dialing 911 he announced in a husky voice that he was a Time Traveler come back to talk to me about the future.

Being a sometimes science-fiction writer but not a fool, I said, “Prove it.”

what are the 3 words, never read the whole thing will later but I caught the end "Three words"

[I advise you to sit down before reading this as you will fall over while laughing hysterically.]

Im wondering if this is the same guy. The story goes of this guy found on the internet in a chat room in 1999 who reckons he's from 2022 he came back for 1 week as thats all he was allowed to give a warning to all and he predicted events that have happened now. He also claims that the USA and RUS will go to war as allies against China which will end in a nuclear war where the USA will be hit badly but survive. He reckons dont worry about the muslim problem - back then the muslim problem wasn't actually a major issue till 9/11 but he forecast that this will fade out.

Yeah i know far fetch rubbish but when reading his chat as its kept on record so ppl can decide for themselfs if its fake or possible. Time travel has nothing to do with a machine he says in 2009 the US scietists figure out a way which has to do with electricity no major machine etc., He goes into great detail how it works hes claims to be a scientist and was part of the project and one of the first guini pigs, can't remeber the guys name but will put it up if i find it.

Its not the same guy. This is a well known author. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Dan+simmons - He honestly believes this happened to him, but that doesn't matter. I like some of the points he brings up which is why I posted it.

What I found interesting is the parallels in history such as Athens and its war with Sparta. Same thing is found today with the US and Iraq - we are only half heartedly into it. The rest you must take with a grain of salt, but I will change my mind if something happens at 1 hour, 23 minutes into the Indy 500 one year!

PS. One more thought - I agree that we need to be more ruthless!

I put the link to the original at the bottom of the original post. Its an interesting spin on what 'reality' could be if we don't watch our step. To me, it is a good description of what Islam would do to the world if it were allowed free will.

PS Not trying to create another anti Islam thread, but more to make you think with this read.

Frankly it wouldn't surprise me, somethings gonna give within the next couple of decades...there's nothing anyone can do about it. Not unless one of us is prepared to go across to the Middle East and set about removing it from this planet and transplanting all of it to another one. We're all stuck on this dying world, and chances are, since we're not happy with killing it slowly, we'll accelerate the process before long.

This is scary. Seriously. If it is true, i'll stick to the Russians. They are the best choice in that "Timetraveller World". What is scary is that his sayings about Benedikt and so on where all true.

But WTH, there where serval occasions about Timetravellers on the internet. It could also be fake. Let's wait a few years and we will see.

Don't beleive it for real! To me, it is just a well written story that brings up some interesting points.

I think the guy wou're referring to is alleged to be named John Titor who claimed to be from the year 2036. There are links to his site through the Coast-To-Coast AM website.

He honestly believes this happened to him

Subman1.. what makes you say this?
Dan Simmons is a pretty good SF writer.. I have read several of his books.. but I dont believe that he actually believes in Martians etc...

In his following letter http://www.dansimmons.com/news/message/2006_05.htm
He describes how and why he went about writing this piece..
I think the real motive for writing this is, like most good authors, an attempt to stir people up and maybe even make them think abit.

I am kind of surprized that AL hasent posted a link to this stuff.. it is definitely very disturbing!

I read another message that explained his rational for certain aspects of the story. Of course, he doesn't come out and 'say' that it is real anywhere, just implies it from what I read. I'll see if I can find that message too if I get time this morning. As always, I could be wrong of course.

Ahhh I think I know what you are saying.. he doesnt believe that he was visited by a grandson from the future.. but he does believe in the danger represented by Islam to other (western) religions... that is quite believable!
The time travel is just a literary device used to tell his story..

Was this the same guy that used a $50 investment, and had accumulated several hundred million within 3 weeks? Let me find that article. Time traveler? (http://www.stressfreetrading.com/Article-on-Stock-Market/Insider-time-Trading-trav.html)

That guy was totally awesome.

Just looked him up! He says some pretty scary stuff - like the fact Hillary is possibly going to be president in 2008 and will spend all her time holding on to power over doing anything constructive. Apparently this will lead to nuclear war in 2015 where Russia nukes China and the US. We retaliate, and in the end, 3 billion people lose their lives, and the way of life as we know it comes to an end. WWIII will result.

The US will survive it looks like, but Hillary won't. The US Presidency will be divided up into 5 presidents in an effort to maintain better peaceful relations in foreign relations so that this never happens again.

Not sure I like this idea of a future much. Mad Cow looks like the most devastating disease.

One caveot - he comes from a parallel universe and things may not happen 'exactly' like that, but there ya go - there is the summary of things from his perspective.

Yeah its pretty interesting read. Would time traveller actually be impossible, I mean did it not happen with the "Philidephia experiment" during ww2? :) but surely 500yrs ago if someone said machines would fly in the sky or to the moon, they wouldn't believe it. Time travel could actually be a possibility one day.:hmm:

It is a possibility. The way he describes it is thearorectically possible too. You know you can bend time with gravity, so what better way to bend time than with a singularity? I worked on a project back in the late 90's that was built to prove that gravity destorts and changes time. Here is a link to the project if you want to read about it:
