EDIT: Graphical linky disappeared. http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2006/
Considering Bush is the least worst when it comes to spending, this is good news. Yes, there's alot of stuff that needed to be done, but having a "broken government" might be a good change. Yes, yes, yes, trade agreements will suffer and we don't know what some Dems might come up with, but after all these years of least-worst Bushing, I'm game for some immobility.
1. Don't you just love Mid-Term elections? We can send the message in the middle of the government instead of having to wait the entire 4 years.
2. A CNN poll weighted corruption (42%) above terrorism (40%) and the economy (39%) and the war in Iraq (37%) on the decision of the interviewed voters.
So even though Americans live under the constant threat of new terror attacks, not to mention the trouble in Iraq, in the USA the corrupt, the liar and the hypocrite does not receive any tolerance, even if that means handing over national security to the helpless suicidal Democrats. Two thumbs up on this one.

Well yes, the Democrats now have control of the House of Representatives, but I think Congress (the Senate) isn't settled quite yet. That will be the most crucial result.

Im really happy about it. Ive NEVER voted democrate before a day in my life. But this election..i guess theres a first time for everything. My basis being NO PARTY should have control of the house, the senate, and the oval office at the same time. Check's and balances is what we need. We didnt need a rubber stamp, yes sir anything you say sir, do nothing congress. With the power not all being held by one party, legislature and such will acutally be properly debated and bounced around like it should be.

According to Pelosi, here are some elements of the 100-hour plan.
1. Fully implement all recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Report.
2. Raise the minimum wage
3. Rollback tax cuts for the top 1% of wage earners ie the wealthy
4. Reform the Medicare prescription drug to allow the government to negotiate lower prices for seniors
5.Investigate corruption & contractor abuse in Iraq with subpoena powers
6. Ensure our troops have proper equipment such as good body armor, armored humvees etc.
7. Meet with the Baker Commission, the new SECDEF and the Joint Chiefs to determine & implement a real strategy for securing the peace in Iraq.
8. Finding a real way to balance the budget and end the hemmorage of govt revenues.

Bush, feds flout the Constitution by finding ways around laws
With upraised right hand and left hand on the Bible, each of our presidents, from George Washington to George W. Bush, has solemnly sworn to "preserve, protect and defend" the Constitution of the United States.
The American Bar Association claims President Bush has violated that oath by issuing hundreds of "signing statements" to disregard selected provisions of the laws that Congress passed and he signed.
A bipartisan, 11-member panel of the ABA found that President Bush is not only disregarding laws but using such signing statements far more than any president in history. In fact, Bush has used signing statements to raise constitutional objections to more than 800 provisions in more than 100 laws. All of the presidents combined before 2001 had issued only 600.

Pelosi is one frigid bridgid. Pro-taxes, Anti-Gun, and most certainly against the war.
According to Pelosi, here are some elements of the 100-hour plan.
1. Fully implement all recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Report.
Sure, lets see how she does with securing the southern border first.
2. Raise the minimum wage
Sounds wonderful, how about giving me ALL of my paycheck then.
3. Rollback tax cuts for the top 1% of wage earners ie the wealthy
And this is NOT going to work as the wealthy are also smart and know how to shelter their assets and use "company checks" for all expenses (this is where the company can spend whatever they want and what's leftover at the end of the fiscal year gets taxed by Uncle Sam, yes it's legal).
4. Reform the Medicare prescription drug to allow the government to negotiate lower prices for seniors
Two things on this issue:
A. Stop frivolous lawsuits against U.S. doctors as it is completely destroying the medical industry by pushing doctors out of work by overworking them, overstressing them, and forcing them to pay enormous legal and insurance fees to stay out of jail because patient so-and-so alleges that they weren't warned of the consequences and want a million dollars for their suffering.
5.Investigate corruption & contractor abuse in Iraq with subpoena powers
A great way to waste my tax dollars: Prosecuting troops for doing their jobs, when there's plenty of politicians to come after right here at home.
6. Ensure our troops have proper equipment such as good body armor, armored humvees etc.
Funny how she says this as it was primarily the Dems who voted against bills meant to go toward Iraq operations, I'll see what they do on this issue.
7. Meet with the Baker Commission, the new SECDEF and the Joint Chiefs to determine & implement a real strategy for securing the peace in Iraq.
In other words: Cut and run.
8. Finding a real way to balance the budget and end the hemmorage of govt revenues
I got a simple one: Stop wasting my tax dollars on giving convicted felons free cable and a golf course and start getting rid of the National debt.

I think thats referring to just CONTRACTORS. (ex. Haliburton?) Not the troops. Their after something called, "Fruad, waste and abuse". THe goverment acutaly contracts alot of things, and alot of times things get corrupted or abused. Im sure you've heard the phraise, "good enough for goverment work". Which mean's half hassed.

The Problem with Presidential Signing Statements: Their Use and Misuse by the Bush Administration
By JOHN W. DEAN
----
Friday, Jan. 13, 2006
Presidential signing statements are old news to anyone who has served in the White House counsel's office. Presidents have long used them to add their two cents when a law passed by Congress has provisions they do not like, yet they are not inclined to veto it. Nixon's statements, for example, often related to spending authorization laws which he felt were excessive and contrary to his fiscal policies.
In this column, I'll take a close look at President Bush's use of signing statements. I find these signing statements are to Bush and Cheney's presidency what steroids were to Arnold Schwarzenegger's body building. Like Schwarzenegger with his steroids, Bush does not deny using his signing statements; does not like talking about using them; and believes that they add muscle.
But like steroids, signing statements ultimately lead to serious trouble.

Well, we don't know that for sure, but having been in the military and worked with/around contractors before the quoted area in question were discussing, to me, smacked of contractors. Alot funds have been put into various contruction contracts and other misc errata, and there hasn't been alot of results of those funds spent. Or so has been my impression from various articles ive read. I used Haliburton as an example because i know they were contracted for ALOT of things, one subcontract example would be the chow halls the troops eat at. What if they were alloted money to serve pork chops, and the troops got something PB&J instead?

Hence contractor corrpuption and abuse ;)
One thing i never could figure out, is how as quality goes , theres high standards, and military spec's, which are supposed to be of the highest standards. Contracts usually (or at least used to) go out to the lowest bidder.
And then when you work with or around contractors, you'll more often then not, hear, "well.. close enough.. good enough for goverment work!"
Now i could be mistaken, but thats just my impression. Who knows, maybe they'll go after a few general's as well. I hope not, but, i know that sometimes they're not golden saints either. I know of at least one AF general who made history in the USAF for his gross abuse of goverment funds by making a cargo plane into his own personal luxury shuttle with all the "extra's". Tax payers money put to good use.. oh yah!
Living in a Southern Border state..Arizona...wasting money on fences is preposterous...idiotic,,,retarded,,and just stupid...not to mention insulting to our "Friends" Mexico...Mexico is a proud country. This is NOT the way to secure our borders...instead here me thinks would be a time for a "politician" to actually be "political" and solve the immigration problems with Canada and Mexico ---"Together"--- instead of this ignorant waste of money...and the landmines won't work when tunnels are the prefered way of drug traffic and smuggling.Seems to me the smartest thing and easiest thing is to raise Mexico's standard of living so much people want to stay..or go there for work instead of here...and maybe level it out within all 3 countries....work smart not dumb.I think a priority of any administration is to take care of business at home with our immediate neighbors to ensure a not good but "Excellent" relationship....if we can't be on great terms with our own neighbors how can we with the rest of the world...my 2cents.

BIg fences make good neighbors  Id think the fences would be a waste of money, only if they didnt work. Which in all likelyhood they won't. The only way they'd work is they were manned and patroled every day, 24 7. That costs money, money the goverment probably can't or wont allocate on an annual basis as would be needed. so unfortuantly the whole thing will probably fail.
Yahoshua

Civilian Militia can fill that role. It is a citizen power to do so.
And as for the lowest bidder contracting, the Pentagon is finally starting to get off that. They recently stopped ordering aftermarket parts for their firearms and started ordering directly from the mfg. company.
I'm very happy that the Dems now control both houses of congress, perhaps now something other than wasteful spending and hollow rhetoric will come out of the capitol. (Probably wishful thinking but who knows?) The Republicans lost because they didn't do their jobs, plain and simple. The President cannot be allowed to run amok with his policy, regardless of who controls the congress, and the previous majority failed in that respect. It's politics 101, no matter what the issues are, if you don't do your job, you lose.

The way I see it, you're either left or right with about the same number in the middle who probably only get their news from CNN or the other major networks. Can you spell biased? I realized this when I was in grade school reading the Cleveland newspaper. If an 11 yeal old kid can see the bias in the news I think that says something. I don't think there's any doubt who Al Queda was rooting for Tuesday.
This group of new democrats seem to have taken on a new disguise. They've tried to present themselves as normal. They even went so far as to vote in a govenor for Ohio that is a former ordained minister. Don't worry, it's just a wolf in sheeps clothing. He's still for abortions, tax dollars paying for abortions, partial birth abortion and same sex weddings. Nice minister huh? This world is getting pretty freaky and the new Dems are a great example.

I disagree. Allowing them in will bring this country down. California has no middle class anymore, just and incredibly large poor base and the largest concentration of rich people in the world. Every single poor county is made of of illegal Mexican aliens. How is that helping us exactly? Take Colorado now. They now shell out over $1.1 Billion a year on them, just to support them with state services. This is not about being nice to your neighbor. This is about surviving as a country. We cannot afford to let them in. Plain and simple.
Now why don't you try and become an illegal alien in mexico and see what they do if you want to see the flip side - that is a life sentence in their jails! Seems a bit of hypocrisy going on around here.

So many times i have heard people here call Bush a DumbA$$, countless insaults at the USA, many Anti-Republican comments, and ofcourse (how could I have forgotten SS[Ill leave the two letters for you to figure out]), totally insane comments from imature people.
Hahaha! Am I reading this right? I can't remember the last democrat joke! Yet every day I only see anti Bush and anti Republican posts (amongst the anti US posts of course!). Way back when in 2004 I think there were some anti Kerry jokes, but that is pretty much it.

I love this, pretending to be open minded and unbiased, and then shift into 5th gear extreme right wing paranoia in the same paragraph, with the rest of the post being as biased as the sources he denounces.
Oh the irony.

What happened yesterday was good for the repubs. Even though I am more to the right than to the left, it shows them that they can't do what they want and still keep holding on to power. The is a clean up your act wake up call and will possibly be good for the country for the short term.
Now I need to call my senator and get them to bring Bush's idea of making the entire North America into one country into question. I like most of what Bush does, but this one blows my mind! He probably thinks he is making us more competitive, but I think this one will drive a nail into the American coffin!!! This issue needs to be brought before congress and Axxed!!!
Just my 2 cents.

That is the way I see it dealt out here. My position is that both sides deserve a minimal degree of respect which is above being subjected to name calling, innuendo, and insults. What say you sir?
Both sides have lost my respect,. Insulting a party agenda or heavily criticizing a method of going about doing things I don't mind (but I do demand the full and unadulterated facts to support ones' stance to be provided when asked by others), its' when things sink down to the god-awful mudslinging (Like Allen did in his campaigning, or the 2004 election) that I try to abstain from......and I do have a difficult time restraining myself.
Nevertheless, I believe "Fridgid Bridgid" Pelosi does deserve that title as she would have me in jail simply for owning a gun if she could do so. That is a grave threat to me in particular and to the rights of Americans to continue living out their life as they see fit, including you.
And both parties have served themselves more than they have served the interests of the people, a fact which bodes a dark future. Things like this:
Superhighway (http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4191/is_20050324/ai_n13478590) project
NAU (http://www.americanpolicy.org/North%20American%20Union%20Fact%20Sheet.pdf)
Construction of the superhighway started only recently in Texas, and Colorado residents have already received notices that their property could be seized under a (defunct byu the way) 1800s' mining easement.
