View Full Version : Around the world...
Is it possible to go around the world in SH3? I fully realize that you would need unlimited fuel on and a very high TC but is it even possible.
Just once I want to sink a Jap like I used to do in SH1.:arrgh!:
Good luck and good hunting. Your gonna need it if you try. Oh, and I hope you find lotsa resupply subs too. Your definately going to need them. There are no shortcuts. ;)

Yes its possible. Although the pacific is totally bare of any traffic. The farthest traffic is along the eastern australian shore and only a few units at that. Past that, it is a great big empty slate.

Might be interesting plooting the original Maghellans voyage around the world and see how long it would take in a sub! :arrgh!:

Now I use GW and I asked this before and I was told you can't you can go as far as that bit were the USSR meets Alaska and that's it am sure you can't circumnavigate the world.

Can't do it. On the other hand you can do it at ahead standard (or flank) if you use the nuclear power option: turn off limited fuel.

If you travel through the Panama canal in a IXD2 at low speed and refuel in Penang, maybe it can be done? I will plot the course and ask my navigator next time I play the game.

You can put some ships in pearl harbour and visit this place in 7-december 1941!

That would be cool (to visit Pearl Harbor)! And you can't go through the Bering Strait? *frowns* I didn't know that...what about the Northwest Passage?

I still think that since the worldmap is flat, it means that you can't go from, let us say, California, to Australia. That's to bad if you ask me.....

Well if you sail east from New Zealand you go off the map on the right side of the screen and come back on the left side of the screen

Someone (Most likely one of the dudes from the GW project) should put a canal in Panama just please learn from the Kiel canal and make stright, deep and wide.
On the Coast Guard thing a homing torpedo would take care of them or at least should.

The panamal canal isn't modled in game. Rather pointless because theres nothing on the other side. And again, yes you can circumnavagate the globe in SH3. I found this out when testing a fatigue model i was working on in a single mission. I placed the start point south of argentina/south america, headed due west, and came out east of New zealand.
If you really wanted to you can see where Pearl Harbor *would* be if it was modled in game, Just make a single mission and place your start point where ever it is you'd like to go to. There'll be nothing there but palm tree's. Again, the entire pacific is a blank slate, but you can go there. Ive often thought of making a poor man's SH4, psudeo US sub campaign using the german uboats we have, but that is an undertaking that is well beyond the ablities of 1 person. COnsidering all the harbors that would need to be put in and such, and essentually creating an RND and SCR layer from scratch, as theirs nothing out there. But, the ambitious, do have a clean slate to work with.

If i remember correctly- the panama canal and port for pearl harbor (just not marked on map) is in Uwac1.7. I actually added a lot of locations, ports, cities, in the far east--but never got around to scripting any ships in SCR or Rnd--like Ducimus said-it was too ambitious of a plan for one man's time.
