got this game just last week and must I say it catched me like no other for long time....

last time I played sub sim was 688 like 10 years ago and was never really into sub sims but rather the one sinking them (IL2 series Virtual Eastern Front multiplay battle-hardned).

Last time I read a book related to subs was maybe 15 years ago Wolfgang Otto submarine novell "Sharks& little fish" and Fall of PQ17 Convoy, now Im about to reread those and get bunch of others too.

So hello to everyone and thanks for great forums that has so many stuff to study for a newbie. (My 10th patrol, encoutering first convoy, destroyers hunts for me and depth under keel is only 40 meters!)
HAPPY HUNTING

eh couple of newbie questions:

Will all the missions will be "patrol sector" style? Is it historicaly accurate?

And will I be able to attend later on some wolf pack attacks?

The missions to the patrol sector are there to give you some sence of direction to the war. SH3 unfortunatelly doesn't support wolfpacks. You have to try the multiplayer games for that

If you want multiplayer games try Wolves at War http://www.wolvesatwar.org/

I haven't try it but I've heard it's very good.

thanks for the link but it seems to hardcore simming to me.
I dont have that 1. patience 2. nerves & 3. math and calculation skills for 100 percent realism settings.
:damn: :o

Welcome. No need for 100% realism. Smaller ammount can be just as hard! If you have a Bernard then the diffuculty goes up by around 100% :D

:D :D

No need to worry about it. After a few missions and some tonnage under your belt you will develop patient and nerves. As far as realism it's totally up to you. You play the game however you like it. As long as you enjoy it and you have fun that's all that matters

BTW: You aren't the former donots76...? I just get nervous seeing someone with a name, followed by big letters, IE: CarismaXL & AirborneCZ or donots761976..... paranoid, maybe.. :nope:

Manual plotting always seemed to be daunting until I learned it. It's really a breeze. High school math class is harder.

Oh and welcome.

Wolves at War doesn't require you to use MAX realism, just 100%, which in NYGM doesn't mean everything turned on.

You do not have to use manual targeting for Wolves at War. The settings to get 100% realism are:

Limited Batteries
Limited Compressed Air
Limited O2
Limited Fuel
Realistic Vulnerability
Realistic Repair Times
Realistic Ship Sinking Times
Realistic Sensors
Dud Torpedoes
Realistic Reload Times
The major impact of 100% realism is that you cannot ESC / Return To Base, you need to dock to finish a patrol. So that makes the fuel settings more important.

The view features are to be turned off as well, but really YOU having fun is more important than turning off features. If you like to have your external camera on, leave it on, no one would be the wiser. :) Just don't get crazy and leave off everything, since that would just ruin your experience really. Just play as difficult as you can and enjoy yourself.

It's really just a roleplaying simulation where you take the part of a u-boot captain. You file a report before and after your patrol, perhaps a daily log. You keep track of your ship sinkings and tonnage and are awarded medals and promotions based on that. All it takes is 1 patrol in campaign mode every 3 weeks real time.

It's pretty fun I think. :)
