This is a very bad mine field around Calais. At this point I was already struggling after one mine did it's damage.

After all my ruckas, the boys showed up. Two destroyers, one corvette, two PT boats and if you look on the horizon, right hand side, you will see the smoke from another destroyer and corvette. DO I THROW A PARTY OR WHAT!

As you can see, my ride is pretty beat! Harald Schubert and Jurgen Wittenberg are dead. This sucks because they owe me money. Forward batteries are destroyed. Cannon and conning tower destroyed. Currently I think I have gotten away. Slowly moving away from the welcoming committee. If I make it I will be sculking back to port:shifty:
:rotfl:Hope this teaches you to never lend money to radiomen or flak gunners.

One will take short cuts.
There's nothing in the channel (GW) 1 convoy if you lucky not telling what's in there find out youself.(ssw of Dover).

I was busy attempting to save some diesel for the Furhur:shifty: My boat got a belly full of lead instead. All in a days work!

Yes. The Calais Minefield is a painful experiance... I was running Decks awash on a flank run through the channel at night, after some BDU confusion.. The Radio Traffic Mod is confusing when you have the Same # as a boat mentioned in the reports.. Home port was Wilhelmshaven... got a BDU report to dock at brest.. wrong base.. was on the way back to Wilhelm when I struck atleast one mine. Had to make emergency repairs in Calais, then my base changed to Lorient... so.. I had to turn around and go back.. :damn:
Seems that running decks awash gave the Mine a sweet spot (I think there may have been two. lol )
Fuel Tank Destroyed, Fore and Aft Batteries Destroyed, Deckgun, Radio/sonar/antenna/periscopes destroyed... 4 crew lost (probably should have lost the watch crew.... as.. when I looked at the external Camera at 49m... there they were still vigilantly manning thier posts.... )

Did any of the 4 dead owe money from the craps game earlier like my two dead crewmen? It was early in the war and suspect allied coverage to be slim. I was wrong. They are numerous and all over me. I was pinged a few times and that is all. They are dropping charges indescriminatly. I'm moving away slow, I have no hydraphones or any scopes. I hear the props through the hull. It is only about 12 in the afternoon so I have to wait for the cover of darkness to make a mad dash. I hope the aft batteries last...down below 10:o . I think I have them fooled!!

No No, they were all upstanding sailors! *Salutes his fallen men.*
Atleast you can move. I had no fuel or batteries. I'm sure it was unrealistic Docking in a town that has no visible dock in the game. but alas it was my only option. Also. you can sit and surface with no batteries (atleast I could) its the Co2 thats the problem. (Using GW mod)

Actually I made way blind and deaf until night fall. My UZO was working as well as the diesels. I have sunk a cargo enroute to Wilhelmshaven. I have not made port yet and will continue the night hunt until port is obtained:rock:

2 things:
1. you should count yourself lucky to be alive. In reality, a mine would blow the crap out of your boat and sink it without doubt....
2. I don't think a minefield sucks, rather it "blows"....:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

No doubt the mine would have sunk me. But there were ocassions that this did not happen. One in particular was an American sub and the mine hit the cannon taking most of the blast. Sub was scrapped when it returned back to California. But anyway, I had hit another mine and still did not sink to the bottom. Luck? Who knows. One thing is for sure, I have outside views and did not attempt to avoid any mines. I layed out my course and let it go! If she was destroyed then so be it. I was fortunate not to hit another.:/\\k:
Hey..............What are you doing to my boat?
I left my U-65 yesterday morning cruising in the warm waters ot the Caribbean, and thinking what a nice sunny day it was goung to be!!............now it looks like you've bent it and probably scratched it as well !!

I personally love mine-fields in the game. They add so much suspense and challenge and can give you some nasty shocks. One minute you're cruising about absent-mindedly at 512 time-compression, the next you're dropping the book you're reading and frantically scrambling your damage control team as your crippled boat is pulled below the surface by the flooding...
Oh, and watching AI ships hit mines has to be the greatest thing in the whole game. I once witnessed a destroyer run into a mine-field at attack speed, detonating no less than six mines before stopping (half of which went off solely because the crippled ship hung close by them. Apparently they've got proximity fuses or whatever they're called).

Minefields suck : because without knowing it they suck ur sub right into it. and then they give you a sort of blow-job. :rotfl:

U-boats in the game are sturdy things. They even survive torpedo hits.

Yes, the mines are a nice addition. After I found out I was bobbing around in a minefield, things changed in respect of how to get the heck out without hitting another mine, getting DC from above by destroyer or plane! I was busy plugg'in along at 3 knots making all kinds of noise repairing my boat. Adds some excitment!
Love the minefields cos it's a little more exciting that just rocking up to a port and shooting up whatever is in there. Keep away from them if at all possible cos once you are in them they are a bugger to get out of.

Especially if you are playing dead is dead....you do not hang out in ports with mine fields very much:nope:
Nub question: Is there a way to tell you're entering a mine field (beside a KABOOM)? Are there certain areas to look out for?

Besides cheating with the external cam? In friendly harbors follow the escort. In enemy harbors...well, harbor raids were not a regular feature of u-boat operations. I avoid them, myself.
