Hi,

I am new to SH III and since loading the Sim I have not had any sleep for at least 18 hours. It's like a drug and I am the addict. I was so facinated that I started reading the forums. (You guys post great stuff) I found out about the GW download and added it. Works great (the work done on this is well above my thought process). Question --- What other downloads can I add without a conflict with GW or that are already in GW.

Appreciate any Info.

Happy Sailing

Don't burn yourself out, otherwise you will miss out on SHIV in the near future.

Have a look in the mods forum to find some extra's that will work with GW, but most of it is already in the game.

Happy hunting!:arrgh!:

Sobers water mod is really cool in my opinion. Runs fine with GW. Skins by Fubar are also nice.

Other than that....welcome to your new crack addiction...you will be strung out before long!!!!:rotfl:

Welcome :yep:

We all are addicted in some way to SH3, but rest a bit as in Spring comes SH4 (can't wait for the supermods to come out). And in Sh3, wait for GWX, then you'll be able to say you haven't alept for days :D

And BTW, try NOT to get the Bernard Sindrome!

Hello there, fellow addict!

I use several mods on top of the mighty GW mod. SH3 Commander (great "little" tool, and really handy if you want to ... say ... start a carreer directly in a IXD2, have the water a bit more translucent, get rid of fatigue, increase maximum tdc, etc), Ansacmicks(?) damage textures mod, fubar and hamburgers u-boat skins (and danlisas ... uhm ... alternative skin :rotfl:), sobers wave mod, etc, etc.

Modding is a long process of finding what you like, really. Its actually like going into a candy store and tasting everything, and from what I`ve seen there is no game with a better variety of mods than SH3.

Oh, get the mod enabler if you haven`t, this lets you change mods without messing up your install.

As Stabiz says... Get the mod enabler (JGSME)

That mod enabler will save you many headaches. Heck, I use it as a modding TOOL.

Another word... many of the best mods available here are already included in GW. Make sure you compare with the readme so that you are not duplicating a process.

Welcome to Subsim matey.

Sink them all.

Yes, GW has most of it.

The only thing I still want is the lit ships, but since nobody has made a pack with an auto installer I have put that on ice. :rotfl:

(And I kinda rely on them being in GWX)

Hello and welcome

I know the feeling as I had a severe sleep deprivation myself when I started playing SH III. After I downloaded GW I forgot the meaning of sleeping:D .

As the others said get the mod enabler it's really useful and easy to use. You can add almost any graphical mod to GW without any problem. I am using Fubars' skins, 3D waves mod and Home Fleet skins. If you need any help understanding what each mod is doing check out this thread http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=78792

Well your question has been asked a thousand times on this forum but that's ok because you're new as we all were once.

I'll tell you that probably most people here use the SH3 Commander mod. If you get it, you'll want to install the weather mod which will automatically be executed thru the Commander mod.

Don't worry. You and everyone around you will eventually get used to the grizzled face and deep set eyes with rings around them like a racoon. You'll dive under the bed in the morning when the alarm clock goes off yelling AAAALLLLAAAARRRRMMMM. I recommend a wind up type with the ringer on top for realistic effect. You'll start to get that desire not to shave so to add to the effect of a couple months at sea. You'll eat your meals directly from the can, without heating them. You'll develope a distinct taste for salt pork, and herring. You'll let your bread sit out an hour or two before consuming it, and have to carve the greenish blue parts off that brick of cheese. I seldom use artificial lighting after dark while on the bridge, and have the temp for the house set at 52 degrees F. Lots of heavy wool sweaters, and suede jackets. While driving, you'll automatically start to scan the horizon, and the sky for targets, and enemy planes. My son now thinks his name is "number 1" even though he's 21 now. There's more but you'll find it out as you go.

Hylander_1314 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/member.php?u=225527) is not too far from the truth. Don't forget about your family, you should visit with them between Patrols.

You may find yourself spending more money on books and U-Boat model kits, and watching Submarine movies. Welcome to our world, theres no turning back now.

I wait till my wife falls asleep then i sneak back downstairs and pick up on my present patrol and use the headphones to keep the noise down.
The only trouble is my wife is due to have a baby any day so every now and again i sneak back upstairs to make sure its still just her in the bed and i havent missed the birth due to the headphones :o

Lifes great isnt it, modern technology in the living room goes a long way for driving a WWII u-boot

Maybe I could get Bernard to stand in for me in the delivery room whilst i keep watch in the control room.

Wife was getting tired of me asking her to mute the TV when I did my hydrophone checks so I wear headphones now... Same thing with the light on the cpu desk.. I have a red bulb in it now so the light doesn't bother her..

Three hours and twenty-six minutes now, but who's counting??

Yea, sometimes when I leave the game at a certain climatic point, I definitely do.

In my current patrol, I am out of fish and the last ship that I hit (large tanker) has been wounded for over a day now and still won't sink. I keep following her from a safe distance hoping she'll go down, but I'm about ready to give up and go home as she slowly creeps closer and closer to land.

By the way, I'm in the middle of grid AM 53, Feb 1943. :yep: ,

I really never take a chance and exit game while submerged anymore. There's just too great a risk that something will get screwed up, so I just pause and minimize to desktop if I can't surface. Just make sure you have a backup battery for your PC.

I have a similar situation to you .. attacked a convoy, sunk a Tanker and crippled a Nelson Battleship which listed and down to 0 knots. I thought 'great' then it all started going wrong. Firstly, a River Escort wouldn't go away and rejoin the rest of the Convoy; when he finally did, I surfaced and loading what torpedoes I had left (2 externals, one for the front and one for the stern) halfway thru the last torp load, the River decides to return and it was touch and go to finish, submerge, cat-and-mouse with the River, sink it with a stern shot then stick a torp in the Nelson = no effect whatsoever so surface the Boat and throw every available shell at it just below the waterline from 2000 metres [as soon as got closer than that, the Nelson opened up on me ?!] I even threw in the star-shells at the end and no indication of sinking whatsoever. I saved the game with no Torps and no Shells and a big lump of renown sat there. The problem is I just can't seem to tear myself away from the Nelson and scratched my head all day trying to think of a solution :hmm: [I don't think speeding up the TC would make any difference either].

I know what you guys mean. You get going on a patrol and you find targets and send them to the bottom or slow them down enough to catch back up and take them out and you get a message or a lookout saying "Ship spotted". it is a visious cycle......

Wives? Babies? Lives? I'm 19. Barely had time to get my heart proper broke (somehow I managed:nope:). But I do love a good SH3 patrol. But when it comes to staying up late though good patrols with successes can make me stay up later than I'd like, it's usually when I have NO activity for hours that I'm up later trying to justify my time use by sinking at least one ship.

Bloody monotony. :nope:

I can't really recall that SHIII have meade me stay up for a very long time
(except the first days when I tried to figure out how to make the bloody sub moving out of the harbor without:
a) Sink
b) Crash into something
C) Getting blow to pieces by my own torpedo etc.

Also the first days I tried to:
a) Watching through the Museum carefully trying to find anything of importance.
b) Going through the Naval Academy
c) Trying to figure out if I could change the resolution, it took me 2 days until I found out I couldn't:oops:

This became a looooooong parenthesis:rotfl: )

But you just wait until I get my hands on Medieval II Total War!!! It's one of those games where you go: "Oh I just gonna fix that thing, and that thing, and that thing etcetcetcetcetc!

[edit] Or I'm not!

Cap. USA, my mate doesn't play SHIII, but he do play other tense games like.....HL2 (Ravenholm) Doom 3 etc. But it's quite anoying to hear someone playing drums when you play a comp. game don't you think?
