U know, I was once making 22 knots underwater in a Type XXI. I was rather surprised.

Supermods? I know they are historicly correct, but I recall someone saying he had his XXi got 8 kt underwater, ahead flank, no sillent running. He then restarted the game and all worked fine.
If this is a persistant thing, then... I have no idea. I'd say it's a glich or a bug.

Might also be a strange effect of having highly experienced/decorated crew. I believe they are able to squeeze more performance out of things - seen people claiming 21kt on surface with VIIC. Of course this gets a bit silly when you end up performing well in excess of what was possible.

Maybe its sh3 commander enabling this? with sh3 commander, at times my surface speed will decrease, hit flank in a upgraded IXD yet shes only doing 5knots this is suppose to happen, or my periscope is blurry usually when i have a destroyer charging towards me. Im sure Jonesy made these events to happen just when the crap hits the fan:D But yeah maybe something is mess up and SH3 Cdr has now enabled your boat to run at 11knots submerged?
Personally why complain?:hmm:

could it be the sabotage mod in cmndr making this happen.
My VIIC was able to do this once when doing flank ahead and blowing ballast I thought I gained the few knots for popping up to the surface with high velocity...
But wouldn't sabotage reduce speed? Not unless the point of it is the boat to burn more fuel then what the captian thinks and he runs out of gas in the middle of Scapa or worse the Channel.:hmm:

Nah, the guys in the engine room just used good ole Yankee Whiskey to thin the mix and a gain a few extra revs out of the engines.

A stock Sh3 bug/quirk/feature, Engine upgrades enable the Sub to go faster, all fine. However when you take that engine upgrade plus a snorkel and run both diesel engine with the snorkel up, you go fast, a lot faster than you should. Another bug/quirk/feature, with or with out snorkel, run your sub at say 7-8m submerged, guess what, your sub goes faster than surfaced or fully submerged. I have also noticed that as you use torpedo's up, your sub can go slightly faster.

"Oh, god... the stench... who gave Bernard that burrito?!?!"
Kinda logic that u go faster when you offload torpedoes, boat lighter, also the snorkel gives air to the diesel engine which is more powerfull than the eletric one so i wouldn't call it a bug if your going faster with a snorkel underwater than on the electric.
Also speed depends on weather, whit waves rocking enought you have less speed than on calm waters.

Sorry maybe I wasnt 100% clear above. Lets say your normal Flank Surface speed is 17Knts, your submerged Flank Speed 7Knts. Raise the Snorkel when submerged, with both Diesel engines going, and you get 23Knts. Do a partial submerge with or with out snorkel to a depth of 7-8m and you can now do 24Knts. On a Type VII/IX doing the above can give you a 4-6Knt increase in speed above the normal rated flank speed of the boat.

ive reinstalled sub commander but am still having this prob. i did upgrade the battery before the patrol, would this be another game bug or is it a sub commander issue?
any ideas how i can fix it?

Umm, that's nonsense. The Schnorkel couldn't be used at anything greater than ahead slow or the pressure of the sea against it would damage it/result in the head being submerged, which activated the valve to shut it off to prevent ingesting water.
If the game is allowing this then it's on drugs....
