CTDs Again

I've been playing in one career now for months, all with the idea of building enough renown so I could get command of a Type XXI sub when they became available. Last night I tranferred to Bergan got my Type XXI. :()1: OK, I started out on my first patrol, being assigned to patrol Grid BE31 southwest of England. While transiting in mid-ocean off the northwestern coast of Scotland not far from Lock Ewe I had a CTD. I've tried six different times to continue this patrol all with the same results, a CTD. I've changed my video card settings and in game settings with no results. Anybody got any ideas or suggestions on what I can do to get around this problem or eliminate it. I've even tried starting a new career, but had that one crash to.

Was there an error report? i.e error with sh3.exe or collsions.act

I remember having the same bug back in my first career using the stock game. IIRC it has something to do with a taskforce nearby. What I did was that I changed my course completely, reloading a previous save. I don't remember well. Either I travelled a long arc around the UK, or I went through the Channel. In any case, the CTD was gone.

I always get one of those Windows Error message thingies telling me that the sh3.exe has encountered an error and needs to close.

Everyone's quick to blame SH3 Commander. My adivce to you would be to roll back SH3C and reload from base (i.e the patrol before you had the ctd).

I have had CTD's as you describe twice. First was at time compression and I collided with something. Second was when I didn't roll back SH3C.

Well, I've spent almost my entire evening trying to get around this crash point which reverts me back to my desktop. I've done verything from upgrading my Directx and Video card drivers to uninstalling and reinstalling the game but with the same results when I go back into SH3 and try playing it crashes at almost the exact same point, even after reinstalling the same thing happens. I've gone through Selective Startup to see if one of my background processes was causing a problem. I'm very much in the the dark about what to do about this. Anybody got any other ideas?

I have read about XXI bugs causing save game corruption and CTDs. I suggest you search this forum or the Ubisoft one.

:hmm: I did take that into consideration, but as the date is June 4, 1944 I think traffic might be alittle heavy at the moment. June 6 is D-Day, I think the Allies might take it unkindly if I tried to get through. I don't know if SH3 recreates D-Day or not but I was finally able to get around the trouble spot northeast of Lock Ewe and make it to my patrol area. On the way I ran into a incoming convoy of the west coast of Ireland and sank four ships for 43,000 tons. :up: Thanks for the suggestion, though.

That was strange. The only CTD I get is an occational TC crash, when I tweak my sub to got 500kt and then the whole game losses it :lol:

:cry: :cry: Sigh...I guess I'm destined not to get to try sailing in a Type XXI. I've tried May, June, and July, 1944 with exactly the same results. Transfer to Bergen, get my Type XXI, leave on my patrol, reach the area of the northern coast of Scotland, betweeen Torhaven and Lock Ewe. Here comes the CTD. I've tried heading for the English Channel from Bergen, I just get out into the North Sea and the CTD again. This is really bugging me. I've even tried starting new careers with the same results. I've was looking foward to trying out a Type XXI and now I guess I won't be able to. Bummer.
